Tony
A terrible scene and tragic loss of life. One speculates a bird strike since the plane had just taken off and was obviously out of control
Steve-O
Thats harrowing Seeing infants being brought from the wreckage although great that they made it, is upsetting. Poor sods shouldn't have had to go through that
Rich
The cars on the road were pretty lucky and if it had crashed on there I'd imagine the number of survivors would be alot less
Tony
Can't help but want to know why it rolled like it did.... The plane looks intact and there's no smoke from the engines.
Steve-O
I'd wager the pilot was flying by the seat of his pants and spotted water and at the last minute went for it.
Tony
Agreed but what went wrong with the plane?
Steve-O
The pilot mentioned flameout so perhaps one or both of the engines lost power on takeoff which is the most critical moment for a plane? Steep climb > low altitude > flameout > nowhere to go....?
SHAHZ
Such a shame ... there have been a few of these of late, all in the Asia region... perhaps poor maintenance?
Sagitar
My daughter flew from that airport on her way home from Taiwan last Saturday. I know that flying is very safe compared with some other kinds of transport, but it still makes you think.
Tony
Blimey talk about a close shave.... I would feel very uncomfortable and grateful right now all in the same breath.
Steve-O
Flying is generally safer but i can't help feeling when it does go wrong it goes wrong in a big way... That pilot done well to not plant it on the bridge.
SMARTLY
That pilot done well to not plant it on the bridge. Or in the apartment blocks, he appeared to miss them both by only feet. Surely when you are at that angle though the pilot has no control?
Steve-O
well he was going for them, banked sharply to miss them and put it across the bridge and into the water. i'd say that was a last minute intervention by the pilot?
Tony
A hero in the face of terror..... The crews actions saved many lives and i for one tip my hat to them, sadly 22 or so people won't have the opportunity and there's nothing i can say to fill the deficit. Tony
This is the taxi the plane hit How lucky was he
Tango
It was falling, not flying. Both engines failed on climb out after take off so it was stalled and unable to achieve flying speed with the altitude available. Lucky for the few that survived that it fell into the river. Rich
Considering how much a plane weighs that taxi came off lightly, another second and I doubt the driver would still be here.
Tony
A double engine failure is somewhat odd don't we think?
SMARTLY
One engine failed and the pilot switched the other one off by mistake and then neither would re-start.
Tony
That's one hell of a pilot error
liner33
Something similar happen when I was in the RAF http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=21142 A mate of mine worked in the tanker section , they had just filled all the tankers up ready for the next days work and as he walked out of the hanger he opened the door to see the aircraft coming towards him just about to hit the ground ! He said he shut the door and took a few seconds for his brain to process what he had seen and what to do , luckily the plane missed all the tankers and hit a road sweeper. The Station commander was flying at the time so it was a tragic loss for the station.
Tony
Very sad..... Any idea what went wrong?
liner33
Same , engine failure (drill) switched wrong engine off
