It was falling, not flying. Both engines failed on climb out after take off so it was stalled and unable to achieve flying speed with the altitude available. Lucky for the few that survived that it fell into the river.

A mate of mine worked in the tanker section , they had just filled all the tankers up ready for the next days work and as he walked out of the hanger he opened the door to see the aircraft coming towards him just about to hit the ground ! He said he shut the door and took a few seconds for his brain to process what he had seen and what to do , luckily the plane missed all the tankers and hit a road sweeper. The Station commander was flying at the time so it was a tragic loss for the station.
