I have been living at my house for almost 2 years now and the thing that bothered me the most was the poor layout of the exisiting kitchen.. also the fact that everything was disgusting! i started saving and 22 months later.. this started: started off by removing tiles / cupboards on this wall and seeing what mess there was to uncover mark where the 'new' door will go: old door location: current hall layout: then we find out the ring for this side of the kitchen is exactly where the new door is going! nothing is simple is it everything on the door side removed: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

adam_r Posted December 5, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 5, 2012 new door way anyone??? old doorway now bricked up laying in the new electrics: getting father to PVA all the brickwork up ready for Mr plasterer: 1 1/2 weeks after the plasterer did his stuff... we where still waiting for the blooming walls to dry!!! How are you coping without a kitchen for that long? When ours was done we were only really without it for a couple of days so it wasn't too bad. I have done everything bar the plastering, i have done all the electrics and Gas, water & waste. they have all been checked by friends in the trade who have given me the relevent certs to say that the job was done to the latest specs, Part P etc. I didnt want my wife or child to be anywhere near the house during the work, so im currently renting 2 rooms from my parents whilst i do the work. when i did all the drilling, knocking out wall etc i remember going home and coughing up black sludge.... i should have worn a face mask! im hoping to be back in this weekend, which means we would have been out the house for 1 month ! i still have these jobs to do: Fit work surface fit all sockets / switches fit door & surrounds fit cupboard doors fit oven / splashbacks / kitchen sink & plumb all fit washing machine / dish washer & plumb repaint a few walls due to dinks here and there fit coving on ceiling fit new fridge/freezer box in boiler. cut worktop to fit under boiler probably a few tasks i have forgotten about clean up fit new table clean the house get all the kitchen stuff out of the lounge and back in to the kitchen! oh and the wife has not seen any of this yet Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

adam_r Posted December 5, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 5, 2012 plastering is a work of art that i have no patience for.... i paid £250 to get the kitchen done and the hallway wall. i also paid £60 to get the worktop professionally cut/joined. i think at the moment the project is around the £2.2K mark, thats for everything to date. SMARTLY Posted December 5, 2012 Report Share Posted December 5, 2012 Very impressed with your work A blog like this will help someone one day to decide whether to do it themselves I had a new kitchen at my previous house and decided to remove everything myself to keep the costs down a bit. I couldn't believe how some of the cupboards were fitted to the walls, most were just hammered in with what seemed like 5 or 6 inch nails into breeze block. adam_r Posted December 8, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 8, 2012 sorry guys! didn't want to face the kitchen on Thursday and last night I went out on the p**s. . which I'm currently feeling a bit woosey this morning.. but hey it was self inflicted!. I think I can get the kitchen sorted today... I'm missing a few doors for my 80 units but I will hopefully get these before Christmas. Sink, washing machine and dishwasher now working wall at end of room where oven is in and working.. cupboard under sink and to the left is still in need of tweaking so handles / 1 door hasnt been fitted: and where the fridge will sit.. need to put the end covers on the worktops before it goes in though, and i need to get a blanking plate for the cable joining box. adam_r Posted December 9, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 9, 2012 not much has happened today.... we purchased, measured and cut some nice wood skirting board that will match the flooring.... drilled lots of holes to mount the skirting to the wall and polyurethaned the wood skirting to protect it. I'm back at work tomorrow and the Mrs has a driving test on Tuesday so they are now again on my priority list .. I also have sheit load of uni work to get done before Thursday.... so it looks like I may not be in till next weekend! ahhh! still got the stainless steel splash backs to fit behind the cooker and get the fridge back in... if I can tidy up the place I could live there now... but I think it would be nicer on the Mrs if I did that for her and she moved back in to a nice clean home! adam_r Posted December 11, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 11, 2012 well the Mrs driving test is today, so this evening i will be going over and doing: Fitting all the splash backs to the wall fixing the worktop to the cabinets fitting the skirting boards getting the fridge freezer fitted all these 'should' allow us to start moving things back in to the kitchen and we can be in there before the weekend. i miss my home... and my own comfy bed!!!!
