I paid £10 for three MF so i thought i had quality?.... In truth ER i don't have time to scour the Internet looking for perfect products, but i am wise of the "to do and not to do" when it comes to car cleaning, all thanks to you and Christian, nevertheless this particular issue was outside of the box for us all and i don't feel totally responsible.

Hi Tony, dont worry mate all will be sorted soon :D Those oily marks still remain a strange one, i'd still put money on something blowing over the car after the detail while it was sat where it was. If they are only on the rear wings and boot then it wont take long to sort and i'll be able to use such a light finishing polish to sort them and the hose mark.

As said mate, this week is very hectic but i'll see you one morning or afternoon next week for a cuppa and catchup

Where did you get them from, halfords? I know you don't shop online but that is really expensive for 3 if they are from there. I'll have to bring one of mine over to show you how thick and soft it is.

You only need to put a list together for one shop and order online. Seeing that this will be the 3rd paint correction the car has had in less than 6 months (average would be once a year) it's worth investing in some decent towels IMO.

Hang on...... I had it detailed, then i scratched the paint on the garadge so it needed painting and their paint job de-detailed the wing so i had it detailed again, then after that a residue was found on the paint and as i removed that it marked the paint

Have you spotted the keyword there, 'I'!! Ok fair enough the swirly wing was down to the bodyshop but the marks on the paint probably could've been removed with the right tools and abit of care without damaging it ;)

You still haven't said where you got those MF cloths from and how do you wash/dry them afterwards?

Another thing I'll add...if you are only washing in cold/warm/hot water with no detergent then you will still have some product on the MF cloths. You will then be transferring this to the paint and if you're using the same cloth for different products without washing it properly, it will also contaminate it.

Do you mix your towels or keep some seperate from the paint? You should also wash new cloths when you buy them with liquid detergent or MF wash to soften them up.

Its a car :o all this use the right gear is a load of rubbish a bit like commercialism....you know the same as valentines day, you gotta buy your loved one a card, some flowers and take them out for a meal........rubbish!! people are becomimg so anal with this is annoying, just take it down your local car wash let the poles do their stuff give em a fiver and away you go job done

Rich you must of spent more in products than your cars worth  i wouldn't mind if after doing all the right stuff it made a car drive better.......but guess what.....it dont. ;)

unfortunatly theres only so many times you can take the car down to the poles "to do their stuff" before the pain gets worn through...... its about longevity, if i want my car to last a long time i will service the mechanics and take care over the paintwork, it will make it run as it should and not rust into oblivion.... but if you dont share our sentiments thats fine, each to their own

I had a Lexus for over 6 yrs and never once had it detailed and when i sold it it looked better than the day i picked it up from Lexus Twickenham, no rust anywhere and the majority of the time it went to the local car wash but i did use to polish and wax myself once, maybe twice a year, since owning the truck (F150) i've washed it 3 times in 8 months, once with the power washer and a broom (yes a broom, aren't i a bad lad) at work, nothing wrong with a bit of self polishing to keep your pride and joy looking lovely its this detailing anal outlook i dont get as it wont make a ten yr old car worth anymore!i woudn't buy a car or pay more coz someone has it detailed twice a year in fact i'd look at it as though the seller was trying to hide something and presenting it in an immaculate condtion trying to mask over some hidden bad bits...

Its the shine that attracts vandals

Exactly, if you want swirl/hologram/rds free paint you need to look after it. A quick wash with a gritty sponge won't do that, in fact all it takes is 1 quick wash to ruin the paint as Tony found out! Look at that in the sun and it's not a pretty sight.

A well looked after car will sell for more or at least quickly. Those who don't care about their paints condition don't really look after the rest of the car IMO. I've seen many cars with plenty of battle scars and they expect people to pay top end prices for them, crazy. When we were looking for the 306 we went to view one, which I noticed had been keyed down one side, it looked horrible. No mention of it in the ad and the seller just shrugged it off. Looking around the car I noticed both front tyres on the limit (so illegal) and other defects, like an oil leak, which put me off. Makes you wonder what else they've neglected!

Not at all, I only buy what I need and use. Yeah there are plenty of people who buy X amount of products that do the same thing but there's no need TBH. Although I make an exception with wax as these can vary quite abit. I've only washed my car once since last September, which I think you will find is less times than you!!

We all know you don't like detailing, you've told us umpteen times but that's your opinion. No one is forcing you to read these thread so if you don't like them don't click. We don't go on about how you should wash your car.

When I said limit I meant on the wear marker so illegal enough for the plod to nick you for it.

I think we should have a WIM wash off.......you detail your cars and i'll wash mine the good ole way and see who's looks the best

Sponges at dawn, MF's at the ready  ;)

If you car is the one in your avatar then you wont see much difference in silver it wont look great whatever you do and it will hide the scratches well luckily as the paint will no doubt be in poor condition

It boils down to whether you care about your car or not , my cars always look fanatastic , the best that they can , i just washed my blue Octavia today and it literally stands out in the car park it looks so nice , thats how i want my car to look and i prefer to drive a car than looks nice inside and out.

Couldnt care less what other people think
