This wheel is on the rear of a late Fiesta driven by a young man who was well aware after hitting a kerb the wheel was damaged. The car was in the centre for other work when we flagged this "condition", explaining the danger the the tyre could depart at any moment, in fact i wasn't to keen taking pictures since the departure could be imminent.

We suggested fitting the spare but he wasn't keen because it wasn't the ST style wheel...... Needless to say he drove out of the centre on the wheel.

think u was busy sorting some thing else tony but we did convince him to change the wheel for the spare in the end,

better to drive on a wheel that does not look the part rather than one that about to go bang!!!!!!!!

Even though you cannot stop them doing their own thing, "But WIM never mentioned to me that it was dangerous that I only had three wheels and the same number of brain cells, so it's their fault I crashed!"

Maybe you ought to make notes on their invoices so they can see and you have a copy if they ever should try to blame you!

Invoicing systems should be able to cover this, garage invoices can put things like "Customer own parts fitted so no warranty on these parts"

Remember the woman in the American furniture store, who tripped over her own child, who was playing, and broke a leg? She sucessfully sued the store!

  I know you probably wouldnt be able to inforce it, but could you have a policy/disclaimer stating that you are not doing any work on the car unless the spare is put on before leaving the centre???....i would imagine most would do it?

I'd have to say the same to be honest, would have just said "we are not touching that car or being in any way associated with it in that condition"

Absolutely horrendous, wonder how long he'll drive around on that without replacing the wheel - absolute wa****

Don't know whether it's true or not but I'd have told him that the police will tow the car if they see it like that - might have scared him enough to put the spare on :D

maybe a tip off to the local police where this guy lives, with copy of the photos? On Police Interceptors a while ago some lad got pulled because some neighbours thought he was dealing drugs (all innocent in the end) but the tip off had a flag put in the ANPR database and so he was stopped next time he passed a patrol car.

i walked past a 09 reg 5 series bmw in my local tesco's the other day with a good 3" chunk missing from his rim not too different from the pictures above. the gap was covered in dirt suggesting it had been that way for some time. I wouldnt get in a car if i knew it was like that!
