parthiban
They've been powder coated and now to be painted? I always thought it was an either/or scenario? Looking good though!
liner33
looks like before and after bead blasting not coating
djwozza
They are powder coated. I think The finish colour needs to be a lighter more OEM bright Silver, then lacquer over the top.
liner33
painting on top of powder coating ? thats a new one

adam_r
You dont powder coat then paint! For power coating you acid dip the wheel, clean, blast, repair then powder coat. Paint is same process but with paint afterwards. I dont know how / why you would want to paint a proper powder coated finish
djwozza
You do if the colour of the powder coat isn't exactly what you want....
djwozza
The guy doing the work comes highly recommended from people who have had their wheels refurbed by him , he has told me this is what is being done. I have only paid a deposit ATM & if I'm not happy then he will have to sort it out if his own pocket. Simples.
liner33
I reckon it will react/not last well
djwozza
If not I will have no issues popping back, he's only 12-13 miles away
Tony
Well whatever the finish looks great to me. Coat/ paint is fine in my book providing it's not twice the price.
djwozza
The deal worked out cheaper than any of the companies I contacted bar one in Canvey Island
Tony
Well that's all that matters.... I can't understand why a coat and paint would react since it's water ingression to the alloy that generates a reaction so in truth they have two johnie's on
liner33
Powder coat is very very smooth and paint requires a good key. I have tried touching up powder coated bike frames/wheels in the past and it doesn't last
Tony
I understand about the key but i also assume the refurbisher knows this as well or the paint will fly off at 70mph. I do however ponder why do both, it seems like an extra mile without destination?
djwozza
That was why I thought "win win" but obviously some feel it won't work. Time will tell I guess. I should have them back by Tuesday latest.
Gordon
Annes mate that paints his wheels, dose it that way, gets them powder coated, then paints them whatever fancy colour Annes wants
djwozza
Gord you really need to update that signature strip bud, it's like 5 years and at least 4-5 cars out of date

djwozza
A question for Adam & Rich, running 17's on the Accord, what tyre pressures would you recommend? I will need to up the pressure on the rear by 1 or 2psi due to weighty ICE install over standard 17's I'd guess. I'm thinking possibly 34/35 front & rear?
Rich
The sticker in my door says 33 front and 32 rear. I was running the front at 32 cos I liked the extra grip but have increased them recently to 34 to see if it improves mpg, which I think it has slightly. I've read on TA that some people go higher than that but I wouldn't go higher than 34 personally.
djwozza
So my guesstimate for my car of 34psiF 35psiR is pretty close then. I will prob start at 34/35psi & if I'm not happy try the 33/34psi combo
