SMARTLY
Why would they do it going backwards and the wheels going forward?
adam_r
I guess they did it going backwards incase he fell... no chance of a lorry running over you. wheels going forwards but trucks going backwards is down to frame rate on the camera
Tony
To be honest i'm not sure what they was trying to prove? To the best of my knowledge most trucks can reverse...... But his nad's were at risk regardless

JamesV70R
The Dynamic Steering thing is clever. The guy who was with us over the weekend (From the company who do Volvo UK's stands) was telling us how it works - apparently it tracks the sides of the truck - probably with lasers (who doesn't love lasers?) - and autocorrects the steering by minute amounts to keep the trailer straight when the wheel is centered. Of course if you turn the wheel it'll turn as normal. Clever!
adam_r
so its like 4ws on the likes of a prelude? the rear axle has slight steering to effectively 'crab' the car accross the lane?
JamesV70R
Nae, on the artic it tracks the tail end of the trailer and steers the cab to keep it straight. I think it must also have a lane departure style system too - you'll note both trucks are following white lines along the road too.
adam_r
thats awsome
Rich
I didn't look at the lines the first time, that is awesome. How many of you have seen a HGV go in reverse like that without the trailer weaving, I guess that's why they did it backwards to show how stable it is Bet it's not cheap though! Rich
He would've been wearing a safety line, there is no way he would've done it without, it's just been edited out.

Steve-O
Van Damme is a legend. At 53 he's still got the moves. He's running the risk of becoming as cheesy as 'The Hoff' though. haha
