Not the American President so calm down.

For security reasons i have to be a little vague here but we have been asked to supply bullet proof tyres/ wheels for "A" Presidents motorcade..... The security team are flying over soon to meet us soon ( outside the centre ) in order to confirm the transaction.

Well kiss my cat and call it Karl i wasn't expecting that this morning -_-

Initial request was runflat tyres but we can get bullet proof tyres so the whole transaction was upgraded.

How do they work?

Dissipating energy is the best i can say..... Google some explanations will help but this particular version is the latest so not open to naked debate.

All seems legit... We had a meet today with a chap shofer driven in a smoked out Jag and discussed options and cost. 45 bullet proof tyres and rims comes to a tidy sum, plus the country's destination is suspicious to say the least, nevertheless if the transaction is honored then we really do supply tyres/ wheels to a President :D

Sounds well dodgy to me. Not some drug baron or West African despot is it?

Make sure you get the money up front. I mean money, folding stuff, not cheque (Can be canceled before your account is credited, 5 working days after the cheque is paid in) or credit card (Company doesn't pay or a claim is made against you and the CC company takes the funds from your account)

Embassies have a funny position in the UK. Embassies are on foreign soil, and not subject to the law of the country they are in.

It is possible for an Embassy to pull out of the contract/payment and your only appeal is to the Ambassador, you'd have no or very little recourse in the UK to get the money.

Be very careful!

Remember also, the Ambassadors cars usually have the reg mark to show the country along the lines of ZIM 1 for Zimbabwe and has posts on the bonnet for flags.

The money will need to be exchanged by bankers draft ( i think that's what it's called ).

Make sure it's drawn against a good, known bank. (Ask them which bank the draft will be drawn on.)

I seem to remeber something about a bank not honouring a bankers draft because of problems with the issuing bank...

Check with your own bank, ask them what you should check before accepting the draft. Ask how long it would be before your account is credited.

They should also be able to tell you who's drafts they accept.

Take the draft to the bank and pay it in before releasing the goods.

Ideally, get the money before you get the special order items, so you don't have to faff around returning stuff if the payment should fail.

Oh, and make sure you know who you are dealing with, not just mobile phone number, get embassy number, phone it and ask to speak to him, prove to yourself he does represent the embassy and is actually who he says he is.

Don't ask me how I know all these things, it's a long story!

Yes, bankers draft are not as sound as they used to be. Cash and bank it is the only safe way if you do not know the people.

Are you going to test these tyres Tony before you buy and fit them to make sure they do as the client requires, if not a lawsuit could cause you problems.

Thinking about this...

they initially wanted run flats then changed to bullet proof tyres? fF they have a bullet proof car it will have bullet proof tyres already and that is what they would be ordering straight away not run flats. I'd think bulletproof tyres wouldn't be worth it on a non armoured car.

Another question to ask yourself is why are they buying from you? Why not from the car manufacturer for the bulletproof tyres? Why a tyreshop that has no experience of these matters? (Sorry to be so blun!t)

Sorry to sound negative in everything I've posted on this, but my antenna's are twitching.

Just hope I'm wrong, and it's all good.

h, we thought the same thing "why us?". Originally i was contacted by their UK representative who asked if we could supply 45 Merc wheels and runflat tyres that will be exported, i said yes but suspicions grew, he then gave me the number of the person in charge of the motorcade who was flying to the UK that night, later he phoned us and we agreed a meeting the next day, during the meeting he explained that using us over the dealer would be cheaper, which i have to agree.

After the meeting we located the products and offered a price, although no goods will be purchased until we have the money in the bank and that's the stage we are at now.

What happened Tony?

It was an elaborate con.... When we interviewed the envoy he dropped his guard a few times in regards to language ( swearing ) it was obvious something stunk, so we just backed away and the whole deal just dissolved.
