Not sure but they will be alot I'd imagine. A set of 14" ones went yesterday for 99p but I'd rather have the 15" ones as that's what the car came with. Think I'll have to get some 16" alloys as it looks like I'll be keeping the car for a while anyway.

FFS my leak is back. I thought my windows were getting too wet inside, just lifted the mat up and the drivers footwell is soaked. I'm not sure if it's the same place until I look but I'd imagine it is. I thought the silicone I used would've stopped it as it works for my rear lights.

It's too good to scrap though, plus there don't seem to be much interest in my mods if I break/put it back to standard. I doubt I'm going for a Legacy now unless petrol starts dropping abit. It would be crazy for me to get one when I know I'll be filling it up on the credit card! So I'm sticking with it for abit longer and try to put it back to standard over the next 6 months.

Well the leak is definitely from the same place...I can't understand why the clear silicone didn't work, unless the water is just sitting there and eating through it? I'm sure someone on here mentioned tiger seal so will try some of that, the drivers footwell is soaked and so is the inside of the windows :D

Just had a thought, how can I clean the old silicone off as the clear stuff is a nightmare to remove? The space is so small I don't think I'll be able to so could I use tiger seal over the top?

Had a look today and I don't think the leak is from the same place as before. Due to the design of it I don't think it could let in the amount of water that is on the carpet. The silicone is dry and not dis-coloured and doesn't seem to have separated from the bulkhead.

The carpet to the right side under the dash is quite wet and I don't think this would be if it was leaking from the same place. I have a feeling it might be the door or windscreen seal now...is there anyway I could test these to check?

The passenger side is also very damp, doesn't feel wet though so I think it's just from where it's leaking on the drivers side. Major PITA though but I guess there's no point sorting it until it's warmer/drier...but finding the source of the leak will help.

Nope cooling system is fine, check that regularly so not the heater matrix. I think I'm gonna have to take the seals, trim and wing off that side to get a good look around. It could be a drainage hole that is blocked as well.

Ok help me decide, shall I sell the car as it is, put back to standard and sell or just break it?

I need 2 new rear tyres, new brakes all round and sort the leak out if I was to keep it but if I'm honest my heart isn't in it anymore ;)

Tyres and brakes I'm looking at a minimum of £200-£250 and I still haven't been able to find any steelies yet so I can sell the alloys. The car in standard form is worth £500, maybe abit more but I think that's a realistic price. All the mods should see me £500 but then I need to spend money putting it back to standard. If I break the car I should get the £500, plus any other parts that may sell and the salvage.

If I get £500 for the mods, but spend £200 putting it back to standard and sell the car for £500 that'll be £700 in total. I think I could get that by breaking it although MK2 mondeo parts aren't sought after now.

It's just an idea at the moment but I'm thinking of buying by brothers XR3i for now as I should get roughly the same mpg as mine but parts, tyres etc should be cheaper. It's only done 76k miles, had a recon gearbox, new clutch and a few other bits done. I would keep it standard but repair all the minor problems and maybe sell it in a year or so for something else.

Really don't know what to do ATM

The estate TD are the only ones that seem to sell and they go for a max of £500 - £700, none of the finished auctions on ebay for the hatchback have sold! Some of the V6's sell for upto £500-£600 depending on the mileage. I know someone wants my rear arms so might sell those now, I was after £150 for those and he wants £20 for the standard ones. Then maybe try and sell the car as it is or I can leave it on the in-laws driveway and strip it but I'd need to do it quick as they won't want it on there for long.

Alot of spares do sell on ebay, it's just a matter of who is looking at the time I guess and how much but a rough idea is

Per door - £20

Bonnet - £20

Boot lid - £20

Wings - £10

Rear hubs with ABS sensors - £35 each

Interior - £30

Bumpers - £20 each

Wing mirrors - £20

Headlights - £20

Rear lights - £20

Grille - £10

Alternator - £50

Intercooler - £10

So over £300 from those, plus £500 for the mods and salvage maybe £20 as it would just be the shell. The tax runs out in May so maybe doing it then with the better weather is an ideal time.

I'd try advertising it for £700 to £800 as it is and see if you get any interest, or maybe an eBay auction with a reserve.

If it goes then you haven't got the hassle of fixing it or stripping it. If you haven't stripped a car it's a pain, time consuming, dirty and then you need to store the bits and hope somebody wants to buy them.

Frag it's ass and live the essex-boy dream! XR3i for the win (so long as it's a mk4 escort)!

The missus thinks I'm having a mid-life crisis and said no...I said tough you get no say!! Of course it's a MK4, the 5a and 5b are nice but a proper XR3i is the original :D

First thing is to get the missus another car and then I'll probably take the arms off, maybe the wheels if I can get some steelies and then put it up for £1k and see if I get any interest. I really CBA with ebay as I know I will have all the muppets to deal with. I know it'll take a while to break the car but if I price everything reasonably it should go quickly, hopefully! :thumbsup_anim:

Maybe the XR3i isn't a good idea, it drinks fuel!!! :nowink: Although I need to put a full tank in and work it out I got roughly 70 miles to 20 quid, which is around 22mpg. Ok I have been putting me foot down (not speeding) alot as I'm loving the car but if I'm gonna spend that on fuel I might as well just save up and get the Legacy I want instead that has another 170bhp! :D

I'm still looking for some 15" wheels so I can sell the 17's and I thought I would've got some today when as auction finishes but the price has just jumped to 82 quid. They're alloys and the tyres have alot of tread but the smaller wheels seem to be fetching more money...maybe everyone has the same idea and are downgrading to get cheaper tyres.

The ones that went for £147 were alloys but I still think they went for too much, I've seen 17" to 19" wheels go for less! I don't know where all the steelies are, people seem to be hoarding them but I will probably just replace the tyres on the 17's for now.
