liner33
I'm not really happy with the rear wheels on the Skyline , since the camber has been set correctly the wheel is sticking too far out for my liking as I see it I have a few options The wheel is a 30mm offset 18x9.5" rim with a 265 tyre 1) Fit a 255 tyre , but the wheel would still stick out 2) Replace with a 25mm offset wheel and a 255 tyre if clearance allows not sure they do these in 18x9.5 3) Have the wheel face machined a little (Someone else suggested it but it rings alarm bells imo) 4) Fit a 8.5" wheel with a 255 tyre 5) Live with it and stop being so OCD Any suggestions? Tony
I would have the wheel machined, 5mm is not exactly end of days.
parthiban
I don't think you're being OCD, the rear shot doesn't look too bad but the front shot makes it look like it does stick out quite a bit. If machining the face isn't a big deal then that seems the best option
SMARTLY
Surely if you machine off 5 mm you won't notice any difference.
Rich
5mm isn't alot, would you really notice the difference? If it bothers you that much maybe replacing the wheels for narrower ones will be easier.
liner33
I reckon 5mm less with a 255 tyre will suffice
liner33
Of course another option would be to reset the camber back to how it was
phipck
visually 5mm can make a world of difference with the lines of the car. But is 5mm enough? thats a hard question to ask and a gamble just to find out!
Tony
5mm and a small camber change should work just fine.
DaveyR
I don't think you're being OCD either. The car looks so spot on in every other way that a small little detail like that stands out, I agree it would look even better if the wheel stuck out slightly less. liner33
Right a bit of progress I dont think machining the wheel will do it , I need 10-15mmm off minimum They dont do this style wheel in the width and offset I want , I would need a ET38 at least and then it would be tight and ideally drop to a 9" rim as well , unfortunately they are not available So option is to fit a 8.5" wheel with a 255 tyre if i go for a ET35 it will bring the wheel in by 18mm , a ET30 will bring it in by 13mm Wheels are about £120 each i think , hopefully get £150 for the old pair
parthiban
Do you think the narrower rears will noticeably reduce rear grip?
liner33
A little but i havent got enough power to worry about it I had 450hp on my last one with 255's and didnt die
SMARTLY
Couldn't you roll the rear arches?
liner33
It will require a respray as the paint will crack
adam_r
hmm.. if your interested in selling the set of wheels I may know someone interested.
liner33
I will be selling them yes but just the two 9.5 ones
liner33
Right there is another option Altering the rear camber Presuming these figures are correct , if I went to say 1.50 degrees on the rear would that have a big difference in tyre wear ?? If not I think a complete change of wheels might be best and go for these
Rich
I like those rims!!
Tony
Well there will be an element of inner wear but with the higher coil rate it should be acceptably..... Nice wheels by the way
