Thought it was time i gave the motor a bit of a going over with the polisher to see how bad the paintwork really was? The front bumper, back bumper, rear spoiler and skirts all need ripping off and respraying?

Excuse the pics as i used my little camera and most look bright/dark ;)

A few pic's?

Looking fantastic now matey...what polisher/polishes did you use...at least I'm not the only detailer on here anymore! ;)

The polishing pastes last quite well, but if you have a search round on ebay you can get other kits with a lot more stuff in them and you can also buy the bits on there own which sometimes works out cheaper? here's a link to give you an idea how to start polishing, Polishing Guide CLICK ME!

Cheers for the link ;)

Cheers matey, its a right pain to clean this one as its had a light blow over in the past and the paint isn't brilliant?

Used my smartool dual head random polisher and tried a few different polishes this time, but the one that seemed to suit it was the mequires gold class? tried the auto glym super resin, auto glym ultra deep gloss, Meir, smart cherry wax, but after a good claying over and a few tests the megs gold class did the job  going to do it again on Wednesday and hopefully again on Friday so i can get it topped up before the crap weather starts to come in?

Will be painting all the underside of the car soon too when i get chance, so it protects all the metalwork ;)

Got so much to do on it.

Abit like the cyclo then - Linky

I've used Menzerna and Poorboys polish, get great results...got some Meguiars #80 and #83 to try and some of the 3M range. Are you going for swirl removal or just the shine?

I have to admire your dedication though, I've got alot of plans for mine but I never action them this quickly! Must find the time before the nasty weather comes.

Yes mate the polisher is just a cheaper version of the cyclo, it does work very well too and it only cost me £30 brand new off ebay, there usually priced around the £130 mark so got a bargain :D

The car has a lot of swirls and holograph reflections (should say did have ;) ) but i was just mainly going for a better shine this time, used Farecla g3 to remove most of the dirt out of the paint and then went over it with AG paint renovator which seemed to get a lot of dirt out of the paintwork and gave me a pretty good base to start with?

Going to hopefully get the wheels off this weekend and tidy them up, might re-polish the rims and respray the spokes the same colour as the car so they blend in better? was tempted to try a different colour on them but not sure what to go for as i think the black works well on the car?? plus i'm going to strip the engine bay down soon so i can get it all cleaned up and looking tidy?

Could just do with a few days of sun now so i can get on with it :D

Little update?

Not really been able to do much to it recently due to lack of funds, but have polished another part and hope to do some more soon?

This is the Intercooler pipe work that i've started,

Before..

During

DSCF5712_edited.jpg

After? still got to give it a final polish and i've still got to get the rest of the black powder coating off it at the welded joints (the ends of the pipe are not seen?)

Fitted back on the engine...

DSCF5739.jpg

Also made a stainless relay box cover, that can just be seen in the top right of the picture with the red edging?

Hope to get the larger pipe done very soon, just need to get some more polishing supplies sorted out so i can continue, and going to start swapping all the nuts/bolts etc for some nice shiny parts :angry2:

Cheers guys

Going to try and get the lower parts of the engine cleaned today when it eventually cools down? want to clean off all the dirt that's built up around the block/alternator etc? might even take the alternator off and polish it when i get some more polishing gear

Looking great Chris, you can do my bay too if you like :(

Anytime mate

Just testing some homebrew cleaning stuff that i've mixed out of a few different brands, to see if it works on the lower parts of the engine

So might have a few pic's later on how its done or not done

Spent another 5hrs cleaning the engine bay :smile_anim:

Quite suprising the difference in how the engine bay looks from when i first got the car to how it looks now..

Quite a big improvement i think??

How it was when i first got the car..

I like how the plastics have come up nice and white/clean looking again, which isn't too bad for a 15 year old motor?

Just like the fan, if you look at the first pic above you can see how dirty it used to be?

Fan soaking in cleaner/degreaser..

After..nice and white :(

Thought i'd have a go at window tinting yesterday? :o

Found a company that sell the tint by the meter so ordered a 100cmx50cm length to see how i'd get on?

Think i've done a pretty good job and only a couple of tiny bubbles, i even heat shrank it to fit when the dreaded fingers started to appear,

Not sure now if i should have a go at the rear, now that i've got the idea on how to shrink the film and shape it? think i could do it?

I was quoted £60 to have the rear quarters done at JAE so was worth a try

Couple of pic's...

Done a good job of that mate even though it was a small window! Try doing the rear in one piece and lets see how you get on

I had a go at tinting me escort when I had it and it went ok, just the edges wouldn't stick for some reason. The trick is to never let the film dry out until you've got it where you want and almost bubble free. I got mine done for 25 quid a window, saves me the aggro of messing it up!

 They were a bit of a pain to do because the glass is curved and everytime i got it close i got a row of air gaps (fingers) apearing so had to heat the film to shrink it in those areas, but didn't do too bad as its the first time i've had a go at tinting

Might do the rear next as i now know how to shrink the film to shape before applying it to the glass? but not bad for less than £3, being as i'd been quoted £60 to have them done

Bit of an update :D

Made quite a few changes to the car since my last post on it??

its now gone from this

DSCF4086_edited-1.jpg

To this...

myCelica2.jpg

myCelica1.jpg

Took ages to change the shape and colour, fitting the Toyota badges was a very hard decision to make, but had to be done? Just couldn't afford to keep running the Skyline so have had to down size for a bit? The Skyline on full boost was doing around 8mpg and the Celica does around 37mpg so a bit better :D But so slow compared to the Skyline :D

The Skyline is now living in Bremen (Germany) with its new owner, who says he cant believe the power and how it handles and is very happy with the car B)

Very sad to see it go B) , but made sense with the current climate and me still not working, but will have another one day as there just an amazing car to drive and own :D

Now on with the mods and polishing :D

Not a bad little motor though the Celica, just very slow and still got to give it a good polish yet :D but not bad for £1500 :D

@Tony if you want me to pop down and give the Lotus a bit of a clean give me a shout mate, as long as there is plenty of coffee i'd quite enjoy it :D
