I ordered the condenser and drier for the Accord earlier on and they refunded me for the drier cos it only fits one type of condenser. There are 2 available for my car. I'd have to reuse the old or buy from the dealer (that's what they said) so I've asked them to refund for the condenser as well. I don't think reusing it is a good idea cos once it's been exposed to the atmosphere it won't be as effective. Gonna try the place I got the Civic parts from and see if they have both parts. I wanted to try and get both cars done and regassed by Friday!

Looks like the idiots haven't refunded me but sent it out anyway, just got a text and they didn't reply to my email in reply to theirs. I emailed them a few weeks ago asking if they sold the drier for that condenser, they replied with links for both, which I ordered today. They email saying the drier isn't the right one! Usually most companies ask if you want to go ahead with the order or cancel it not just issue a part refund and send the rest.

I can't find the drier anywhere else other than Honda and it's over £100! Do I chance reusing the old one?

For what it's worth I reused my drier on my astra. I did use a vac pump on it overnight to make sure all moisture from the drier was removed. Air con guy will probably only vac it out for 30 minds max anyway, which in my opinion isn't long enough.

Already looked there, the drier on the website is for the other condenser that isn't on my car, it's the same one I ordered this morning that I got refunded for. I emailed them earlier asking if they had the right one and they don't :(

I have read threads about people going to fast fit garages and getting it all done in 30 minutes! It should take an hour minimum but I'll be using a specialist to regass them. I think I'll have to take a chance and use the old one, thinking back to when I had my Mondeo I changed that condenser and left the old drier without any issues.

Just got a reply back, none of the UK suppliers have them for my condenser but he can order one from abroad at a cost of £35 but it's at least a weeks wait. I wanted this done before we go away in 2 weeks time so that's pushing it.

So I asked the guy who I'm planning on using for the regas if he could get a dryer and he said his supplier told him it's a main dealer part so I'm not sure what to do now. I'm not paying over £100 for it and I don't want to order one from abroad in case it doesn't fit, it would be a pattern part. I think I'll have to chance using the old one.

The website I ordered the condenser from showed it without the dryer and the description said it wasn't included. I spent all day trying to find one only to get home, open the box and see one bolted to it already! FFS

I measured everything and then checked it against the car as best I could and it seems to be right. There were also O rings in the box!

I use my aircon all year round and I've been missing it, especially in this weather with black leather seats! :(

I was reading up on changing it in the Accord last night and I have to remove the battery, tray, airbox snorkel and the coolant reservoir - sounds like it's going to take a while. They say to leave the bumper on but it restricts access to the bolts for the pipes but I'm removing it anyway to mesh it. The Civic needs the bumper removing anyway to get access, along with the crossmember at the front.

It's not good when the company that sells the product doesn't know there is a drier already on it! I think they ship from the supplier directly, it came from Gloucester and they're in Birmingham. Maybe the manufacturer decided to include them but forgot to tell their resellers!  I can't believe Honda would charge over £100 for that silver cylinder, they want £400 for the condenser on it's own!  :censored:

That did not go well! :(

I got everything off eventually, had to remove the passenger headlight to get the bolts off the drier, it's separate on the Civic.

Fitted all the new O rings and bolted the bottom pipe on, that was fine. Got to the top bolt and as it was going in it felt tight. I knew I should've stopped but took it slowly and it snapped! So I've got a new condenser with half a bolt sheared in it!

I can't turn it with my grips and not sure what to do next? I've loosely put the car back with the old bits but had to stop it's too dark. I'll finish it in the morning as got MOT Saturday and need to do some other bits as well.

Any ideas on getting this bolt out? I'd imagine the thread is knackered now and I don't have a tap and die.

No I don't have any stillsons, do you think they would grip better?

Can't find many wrenches called those, could they be under a different name?

It is literally about 5mm of bolt that is in the hole. This is what's left compared to the other one.

I did the Accord today and that went well, in fact it was so much easier. The pipes are in front of the condenser and not behind so access is much better. When I started undoing the bolts abit of gas was still in the system and started hissing out, oops! I removed the bumper as I was meshing it but you don't have to, although I think it makes the job easier.

The radiator looked abit clogged up as well so cleaned that.

Getting it regassed tomorrow by a specialist, £50 and he comes to me. Hopefully it was just the condenser causing it to not work.

You need something like a super wrench or bionic wrench that will grip on rounded nuts. Otherwise a good quality set of HSS drills.

Have you thought of an inexpensive easy-out from Screwfix and a single HSS drill of the appropriate size?

I have a set of easy outs but I'm scared to use them cos if they snap it makes things alot worse. I've only got some B&D drill bits but I'm not sure if they're HSS ones. The bolt has a diameter of only 4-5mm so if I drill I need to be very careful but going in the centre might releave the pressure and let me undo it with some grips.

I would need to buy some punches as well to make a dent for the drill plus the bits - I'm looking at these and these.

I'm going to Essex tomorrow to see the family so I'm taking it with me and see what grips they have. My Uncle has loads of tools so might have something.

Well grips didn't remove it so my Uncle drilled it out. He has just started selling Draper tools so had a new set of HSS bits to try. The smallest one did snap so went up a size and got through it. It was high tensile as well so wasn't easy!

Tried one of the bolts that were ok in the other side as it's threaded all the way through and it was very tight. Seems they didn't make this hole big enough. I need to get a longer bolt now and probably a locking nut and hopefully that will do the job.

Yes that's what he did but the first 5mm has no thread, which is why I need a longer bolt. Something I didn't know was that steel and alloy fuse together so cos it was tight that's why it probably snapped. I need to use loads of grease on the new bolt!!

Well I popped to Midnight motors yesterday and got 4 replacement bolts plus a longer one and a locking nut. The bottom hole on the condenser I can screw in by hand but the top one (that had the sheared bolt) is tight, I need to use a ratchet. I only did it a couple of turns to make sure it would fit, which it does so lots of copper grease will be needed  :smile_anim:  Once the nut is on I can cut the remainder of the bolt and it should be sorted. Going to do that on Wednesday night/Thursday.

I bought the relay for the Accord so hopefully that will be here by Wednesday and mine will be working again. Can you buy relays from motorfactors as well? Honda wanted £25 so I got a used one for £7 but never thought of a pattern one until after I bought it.
