Tony
Some shocking images but in respect to those that gave their lives a compelling portrait. http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/ww2.html
Rich
It was pretty gruesome back then, I couldn't even imagine what it must've been like. To think my Grandad was in his 20's then as well, he must've seen some sights
parthiban
Powerful photos - it's hard to imagine what it must have been like to live in a war zone. Scary also to think if the Japs hadn't attacked the US, then would they have even got involved, and if not would we have had the same outcome? Also scary to think it really wasn't that long ago, and with countries like Iran and North Korea continually arming themselves, could the same happen again with a crazy leader who decides to take over the world. Its surprising how many Americans think they came into the war to bail us out when in truth both Japan and Germany both declared war on the US not the other way around (Of course the formers declaration was a little late in arriving)
GamithUK
I think that the real reason that the yanks 'helped' us in Europe was so that the Russians didn't end up with all of Europe. We couldn't have taken Europe ourselves, and the Russians may not have stopped at Berlin, in fact I doubt they would. When Jonathon Coulton did his first UK gig his very first song was 'over there' - which caused some ribald laughs when he got to the 'Saved their asses in World War II ' line. :-)
