Tony
I've been dyeing to remove the engine for two reasons. First it's looking even more fake due to the dirt and dust on it, and two the plastic glass covering the engine is so dirty and tarnished you can barely see the engine and i think it's due to the real engines fumes and alike. What has held me back from doing this is the number of bolts and screws and which holds what. The last thing i wanted to do is damage the engine or god forbid crack the perspex glass. So a few images taken just so i know what goes where? Here you can see the dirt on the glass As things worked out the engine was held in by two bolts and two screws, oh and some sealant. Now out i can detail the engine and i think I'll leave the perspex in place and detail that there As for the car it's back to bed time I now have a full cover for the car because the partial cover is not up to the winter i think? Tony
It's as clean as i can get it. Looks like it'll need repainting now because the paint on it just fell off.
Rich
Misleading title, I thought you had taken the actual engine out! It does look abit neglected once it was out but has cleaned up well. Definitely needs a lick of paint now. Can it be taken apart easily?
SMARTLY
What's it made of cardboard?
Tony
I't'a made on plastic and painted and no it won't come apart so I'll have to mask it off and then paint it.
Tony
Intake painted with four coats so once dry i can start on the matt black and the Ferrari red rocker covers. I've also removed the plexi glass because as you can see it's totally messed up so although a pain to remove it'll be worth it in the end. Rich
Coming along nicely, what paint are you using? Are you going to polish the perspex or replace it?
Tony
Engine all painted and cleaned now Dog liked it The plexiglass i'm going to polish since a new one is nearly £
liner33
You could cut a new piece of plexi for peanuts , in fact i'd be tempted to take a pattern off that one before you put it back together as £400 is outrageous http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clear-Polycarbonate-Lexan-Makrolon-Palsun-Sheet-Solid-Panels-Cut-To-Size/162511215510?hash=item25d66c5b96:m:mYUuukPcRtW5aJnJ40rMZug
Tony
Problem is some of the plexi has a pattern matt black on it so i want to keep that.... I must confess i've tried 3 or 4 polish kits on the plexi and it still looks frosted... I would even pay to have this done now if i knew anyone local that does it? liner33
That's easy either paint it or wrap it with 3m
Tony
There must be a way to clean the one i have, It's just that everything i've tried has left the surface frosted.
Tony
After three or four top perspex/ acrylic cleaners that seemingly remove scratches the poor viewing still remains. So after wasting £60+ i gave up. I then took it to a company that cleans headlights thinking it should be easy for them i was met with "we'll try our best" ....A few days later it was done with a fee of £85+ vat Nevertheless i opened another issue after painting a worn area matt black that being the paint reacted pulling away from the perspex. Getting the engine in then the plexi and finally the side vents took three hours And now the black part I can't scrape the black off without ending up where i started so I've decided to have the black area wrapped. My conundrum is shall i go for black again or go for the same colour as the cat?
Viking
Our cat's ginger so I wouldn't recommend going down that route. I'd stick with black personally.
Rich
It looks a lot better now, shame about the black.

Tony
It looks a lot better now, shame about the black. Agreed but what to do, blue or black?
SMARTLY
Black, keep it original.
Tony
It will be a wrap on the outside because removing the OEM black will damage the perspex.
