Rich
Yep I'm sure they will but being on the east coast will help as people might not travel to get them. The only thing with steelies is I need to buy the appropriate nuts so it would probably work out the same cost if not more than alloys. adam_r
IMHO steels would look poo
SMARTLY
Not if you buy some cheap trims off ebay
parthiban
Get the alloys! Steels look horrible, even with plastic trims. 16" alloys might not be as nice but as least they suit the car.
Rich
Yeah I'm not a fan of steel wheels I must say
Rich
Bought them, collect Saturday
SMARTLY
So you just need to sort some winter tyres now ...........
Rich
Waiting for Tony to get back to me with some prices
Rich
Yep most of them fit, it's just that some of them do have different offsets so I'm not sure how much clearance there is. I think Accord 16" wheels are ET55 but ones off a CRV could be ET35-45, from what I've found.  I can't believe how much some people want/they bid up to for wheels with winter tyres. These are on £310 so far, getting on for new prices and £395 for these - crazy!!  I couldn't believe how much the ones in the second link sold for. You can buy those tyres new for around £70 each, then say £10 fitting so approx £320 for four. With what they paid that leaves £110 left for a set of rims. Sometimes I don't think people do the maths!!
parthiban
It's auction fever, I've been to a few property auctions over the past few years and people lose all sight of what something is worth once bidding fever starts..........
Rich
I've seen that on those TV shows, they bid well over the guide price!
Rich
I do have a question about the speed rating on winter tyres. Honda recommends the 17s are a W rating but I don't think winter tyres go that high, so what would be the ideal rating?
parthiban
Isn't the letter the speed rating? I'm sure winter tyres even if lower than normal ones will still be well above the speed limit - for example W is 168mph (does the accord even do 168?) Â What ratings do the winter tyres go up to?
SMARTLY
Think my Continental Winters are "H" rated, still 130 mph
Rich
I've seen them up to a V -Â http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-details/toyo-snowprox-s953-205-55-r16-94-v-xl#43702925 Â In a 17" tyre it's recommended to use W but after using the checker on blackcircles they recommend V for 16" so should be ok with that. Â I think the Accord can do 130mph but obviously manufacturers would suggest a higher rating than what the car can do. Â Is there more to it than just the speed the tyre is capable of doing though, this is what I'm not sure of.
parthiban
Yep I'm pretty sure the letters are just speed, the reference to load was when XL is used in the tyre description.
Rich
I think that as well but something is making me think there is more to it
parthiban
From this it looks as though the number before the letter is the load rating: Â http://www.blackcircles.com/general/sidewall
Rich
The load rating I have found tends to be the same on all tyres no matter what the speed rating is. It's usually 91 or 94.
SMARTLY
The load rating will depend on the size of car and how heavy it is, so a bigger engine will have a higher load rating.
Rich
I was wondering if the tyres are made different for the speed ratings, so the faster it's capable of the stronger the tyre? So there could be a difference in the compound used, which in turn can make the car handle/behave differently? Â With the pressures I've kept them at 31psi and they seem ok so far, might go a little more and see how it feels.
parthiban
Good question, does a higher speed rating mean it works better at higher temps, and therefore less good at lower temps? Â Tony?
Tony
No because there's a difference in the compound that runs along with the rating. It's all about silica content, load resistance and tread patten.
Rich
I remember you saying about the speed rating on the Corolla when I said I was having tyre issues. So a tyre with a H rating could have different compound and silica amounts compared to a V or W rating?
Tony
Normally yes.
