front wheel scrubbing - insides showing threads!

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've got a Seat Leon Cupra R MK1 and since owning it i've always had an issue with the insides of the front tyres wearing fast than the rest

i took it to a laser alignment place, and they did a minor adjustment but said it was fine, however the insides are trashed, and the rest of the tyre has loads of tread left

i'm guessing this needs a camber adjustment?

the problem is, the garage i went to, didn't have a clue what was wrong with the car, and said the tracking is fine, and didn't want to know, even though they saw the tyre wear.

so what i would like to know is if the camber thing is what i need adjusted

and if so, where near cardiff is the best place to get this done (ideally i want a garage that know what they are talking about)

thanks all

what kind of mileage do you usually get from a set of front tyres ?

based on the last 5 sets, and the mileage (35k) i've done, it works out 7,000 miles

I've only ever had 2 sets on the rear (thats what you get for 265BHP on a front wheel drive car though i suppose)

How much of the tread is involved with the wear...... 10%, 20%?.... I have a trusted centee in Bolton if that helps?

If your place was closer i'd be there in a shot!

but bolton is a massive drive for me

I'm not sure about your question, however, i could take photos if its easier and post them here?

if photos would help, let me know what type of thing you want to see

thanks guys

Images will speak volumes..... Just the tyres as removed will do fine.

Without doubt camber, your going to need an adjuster kit...... Shall i find out whats available for you?

Thanks Tony

the guy who recommended you on seat cupra.net also mentioned i may need a kit

http://www.ingallseng.com/35657-vw-adjusta...ball-joint.html

not sure if that is right, however I'm keen to try and resolve with a camber adjustment first (possible?), then try a kit if it fails

I don't suppose u have anyone in south Wales? If not is there a specific machine ishould look for?

The place I was in today had a new system called proAlign, he said tracking was out, so I mentioned the camber and he said it was the same thing

any advice appreciated

Walk away ............

http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/tech-cambertheory.php

I did pull him up on it, and he said they use the same word for both things

but i got a little concerned so opted out of the "tracking" service

Now i just need to find a place near cardiff that is recommended

any ideas?

The adjuster is for the camber but it reads "left side only" but you need both...... As to where, type your post code into this site> www.alignmycar.com that will find the nearest Hunter machine to you.

From the posts and picture, 35k miles and 5 sets of tyres... extreme wear.

Simple questions... not specific to this car, but typical of some cars out there. How on earth is a car set up like that, was it ever inside the build parameters, needing adjustment kits to put it right? Or what is going on?

What's the experience?
