Tony
This tyre is from a BMW Mini Cooper The car was in for a brake check because the owner could hear metallic sounds.... The owner was totally unaware this tyre had been flat due to an error in the warning system. Personally i feel there would have been other clues but this was his story. Rich
Couldn't believe that tyre when I saw it...it had actually split!! Here's a pic I took...click to enlarge
Tony
The split is where the rubber and the kevlar sidewall meet.

CIH
I've seen this with a few runflats. "Run on Flat", so people do..... Didn't know they used kevlar. No wonder they're so expensive. Or is that just FF ? >.>

djwozza
Someone really needs to expose on Watchdog or similar programme the real dangers of the industry/EU/whoever enforcing these tyres on cars.
parthiban
Personally i feel there would have been other clues but this was his story. No it's true, my brother once had a blowout in his Z4 and other than the loud pop and the warning light, there really was no other indication that a tyre had gone. Only if you're driving pretty hard does it become apparent, and even then it's not obvious (great piece of tech from that perspective) That tyre looks completely worn out though is it really flat or has it just worn right the way through? CIH
Someone really needs to expose on Watchdog or similar programme the real dangersof the industry/EU/whoever enforcing these tyres on cars. It's people not taking the time to look at their tyres, nevermind pressure checks etc. N-one forced BMW to make them standard across the range. Just an excuse not to provide a spare IMHO. The amount of cars that come in on the back of a truck simply because there was no spare is absurd.
