Tony
I think the self driving convoy will be comparatively safe with the amount of electronics which are bound to be fitted. Fail safes, overrides etc will be heavily monitored to ensure that safety is paramount and the convoy stays together. From reading the reports they will be travelling extremely close coupled, though still have enough room for a moron to decide that there's "enough space" to sneak into a gap. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-41038220
CP09
So, nothing new then - given the spacing of many of the HGVs on the motorways. Just so long as it's not possible for one convoy to try to overtake another at 0.01 mph difference. Can you imaging driving at 70 mph in the middle lane of a motorway - overtaking a convoy - only for driver in cab 1 to decide to pull out to overtake convoy 2 travelling just a bit slower because the lead of convoy 2 is climbing uphill whereas convoy 1 is still on the downhill section? Tony
Another thing..... What will they do when coming off the motorway the slip road has traffic lights? I mean one or two might make the lights but number three would pass on red?
SMARTLY
They will have drivers in each lorry who can override when required.
Tony
Yes i know but that's for testing purposes but in the future won't the last two lorries be driverless.

Tony
How long does your licence last?

Tony
Subject to cost i would renew the licence since driverless lorry's are some way off yet so the licence is good to have as backup.
