CP09 Posted November 29, 2015 Report Share Posted November 29, 2015 Quite honestly, that amount of chain moving at that speed - you would need some pretty hefty shock absorbers to stop it tearing out the "Bitts" - or simple braking a link. (The Bitts are the fittings that the old sailing ships had for the end of the anchor cable (rope - not chain) - once all the cable was used, you reached the "bitter end" ...) Rope, of course has an amount of stretch which chain can't have. It looks like the winch was having problems with the motoer, and the band brake just wasn't intented to hold that load.
