liner33
Spoke to wife and they are forecasting 12" of snow tonight . People have been advised to avoid using the roads if possible as it will speed up the clearing efforts , all seems very laid back UNLIKE the UK
Tony
Not sure what state but the road/ rail infrastructure has been closed down..... A wise move in my opinion unlike the UK's bumper car season.
Rich
If they close the roads and public transport does that mean businesses also close, how do people get to work?
Tony
How do the public get to the businesses anyway?
Rich
Do workers still get paid though? Our policy is if it's snowing and we don't come in we don't get paid but if we make an effort to get in, even if it's hours later you'll get paid. The trouble with that is everyone battles to get in and then they send you home an hour or two later cos they're shutting the building in case it gets worse! That's ok if you live locally but some people are an hours drive away.
Tony
The boss's need to use their common sense really.... As a boss my number one concern would be the staffs safety and in my case if i can't get to work how the hell are customers going to get to us?

That's ok if you live locally but some people are an hours drive away. Many work from home if they can but if cars get abandoned all over the place like happens over here then they cant clear the roads and that prolongs the pain, absolutely no point trying to struggle in through 12-18" of snow , that's pointless When I lived in Canada we got sent home if the weather was bad and told to come in later As it turns out the storm didnt come to much only 2-6" in Philly mind you that amount would grind the UK to a halt http://www.newsworks.org/index.php/local/item/77740-blizzardof2015-is-dud-for-philadelphia-and-south-jersey?linktype=hp_topstory http://www.newsworks.org/index.php/local/item/77740-blizzardof2015-is-dud-for-philadelphia-and-south-jersey?linktype=hp_topstory

Is that what they told you ? lol Not me personally but someone who used to work here had problems with child care and coming in on time if at all. They asked if they could sometimes work from home and that was the reply they got!

Viking
I wish I could work from home, but unfortunately my job requires me to visit peoples houses and fix their broken boilers. Hence I run snow tyres all year.
