Do workers still get paid though?

Our policy is if it's snowing and we don't come in we don't get paid but if we make an effort to get in, even if it's hours later you'll get paid. The trouble with that is everyone battles to get in and then they send you home an hour or two later cos they're shutting the building in case it gets worse! That's ok if you live locally but some people are an hours drive away.

Many work from home if they can but if cars get abandoned all over the place like happens over here then they cant clear the roads and that prolongs the pain, absolutely no point trying to struggle in through 12-18" of snow , that's pointless

When I lived in Canada we got sent home if the weather was bad and told to come in later

As it turns out the storm didnt come to much only 2-6" in Philly mind you that amount would grind the UK to a halt

This is the thing, with the internet I could easily work from home as well if I had to but apparently the company doesn't have insurance for staff to work from home?

Is that what they told you ? lol

Not me personally but someone who used to work here had problems with child care and coming in on time if at all. They asked if they could sometimes work from home and that was the reply they got!
