Hi all. First post here.

I own a '98 Audi S4 (B5 v6 bi-turbo model). I am having a pair of tyres from Black Boots next week. Have heard nothing but good about W-IM from other forums and they are not that far from me at all. Finally if only for tyre fitting it sounds like they are somewehre I can trust, having not found anywhere else yet I do! Other places always seem to either mark the wheels, don't know what or torque wrench is or leave me wondering if they understand balancing. I was about to say I have high expections, but really I just want what I see as a fairly simple job done well, we shall see!

Anyway abck on track, this post is as my last alignment on my S4 was back in September 2006 and done at an Audi dealer (only time it's been to one in a long time  having had the track rod ends changed. Alas timing is bad and I am not too flush this month but I was wondering of the benefits of having W-IM do another alignment?

I suppose 2.5 years is enough time to justify having it checked? EDIT: I should add that that is actually only 12K miles of use. How often is an alignment recommended? I have no obvious signs of needing one - tyres worn evening bar front passenger - but only due to roundabouts I guess!

Just how much can a specialist alignment better what I had last time from the dealer?

The car doesn't really go on track and only does about 5-6K miles year. It's stock suspension still (only a 42K mile car) apart from front and rear H&R anti roll bars. As best a handling car for the current setup, without tyres wearing excessivly unevenly, would be my goal.

The settings from the last alignment are below if they mean anything to anyone.

Hello Graham

It reads like you want the job done once and done right!, that's what we do hence the advanced equipment. Our clientele travel hundreds of miles so we really do only have one chance to hit perfection.

Our job at the chassis is to tune the positions, either to compliment modifications or to belay tyre wear or handling complaints, the report you displayed looked very surgical but this doesn't necessarily mean the positions suit you or your driving style. Point to remember the positions offered by the manufacture are "suggestions" not law.

I think you are going to have an eye opening experience at wim :smile_anim:

Thanks for replying Tony, hoped you would.

Tell me more!

My tyres should be in Monday so I suppose I need to decide whether to book in for just the tyre fitting or an alignment slot too. Just need to be comfortable it's worth it.

First up take a tour> http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/virtual-tour.php

Check out some of our customers cars> http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/simplegal...n2=View+Gallery

Or maybe the latest very expensive tyre fitting machine> http://www.blackboots.co.uk/bosstouchlesstyremachine.php

We inflate with nitrogen (for free) we use the very expensive Haweka balance system that balances to the nearest gram and gives a printout to prove it.

As for the alignment..... I'm the ugly one in this> http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/wheels-alignment.php who wrote this> http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/tech-cambertheory.php several years ago for the entire internet community to understand there's more to your car than "front wheel alignment".

This understanding works well for the domestic community because i treat every car as unique?..... example..

We both own a Vectra but.......

I mainly drive on the motorway, you don't

You always have a full fuel tank, i don't

I have three kids, you don't

Your a boy racer, i'm not

I weigh 16stn you weigh 10stn

The point is there's to many variables to say any one set-up suits all....... We tune the chassis to suit the owner, the mods and the driving style :ph34r_anim:

Hi Graham,

I have a Honda S2000 which Tony looks after for me.

I have to be honest and say that since having the work done the car is signficantly quicker on the track, mainly due to how confident I am now with the car. I was chasing down a 911 at my last track day to put into perspective the difference a good geo makes !

Definately get it, even if its just ot ensure your tyres wear right !
