getting tyre wear on the left side of both front tyres. also the car creeps to the left when u let go of the wheel, thought it might be the tracking so i took it to get looked at, turns outs its spot on, the guy recommended 4 wheel alginment,

he said it could even be power steering wear! never even heard of that!

when the car was up he was looking around the back and noticed that 1 of the rear lower arms look slightly bent, he got me under to see and it does look a bit curved

so im going to see if i can get the 4 wheel alignment checked, do you thing this might fix it?

ps whats the difference between 4 wheel alignment and geometry?

pps i did have a front end shunt earlier this year and my tyre wear seemed fine till then, but that could just be my imagination

It looks like camber wear to me...... this link>http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=49 will explain the different types of alignment.

You need a full Geometry, personally i would be interested to know the position of the SJI (steering joint inclination) this will tell us if the front cross-member is off line.

so when i book it in i ask for a full geometry and not a 4 wheel alignment?

just so i dont look a proper tool :)

Yep a full Geometry...... Most of the angles are fixed on your car but they are used for diagnostics.

FFS noone has a clue what im on about!

do you need to take it somewhere special? ie an accident repair centre or summit?

swear to god if 1 more person asks me what it is i'll go mental!

"we can do wheel alignment" , very good, i asked if you do suspension geometry, i can get wheel alignment done at the end of my street! :)

That just proves how little garages know about geometry then.

Shame you're so far from WIM as well.

Welcome to the forum though, I'm assuming you've come from MEG? :D

Independent tyre shops are best..... Just ask if their machine can measure the castor angle and it gives a print-out.... If the answer is yay then that's a geometry machine :D

  • 2 weeks later...

same arm, different joint

P6210327.jpg

im no mechanic but i'd think theres a chance this could be the cause

also, when driving at speed there's a slight virvration through the steering wheel, and the wheel is slightly to the right when driving in a straiight line

Those bushings are shot..... It would be pointless aligning the car in this condition.

i know, coulld this be the cause of the tyre wear?

Definitely... The Geometry is at the mercy of the bushings.
