Wrapping is temporary, painting is permanent. So if it's a wrap then no need to inform DVLA as the car can be reverted to its original colour very easily.

 

Now that I think about it is that the case? So if you had a black car and you had it wrapped white, you don't need to get the colour changed to white?

The DVLA used to agree that a vehicle wrap shouldn't need to be recorded. However, they recently issued a statement that they'd effectively changed their minds, and the owner should (note they don't use the word "must") inform DVLA of the change if a full wrap is applied. That doesn't mean s**t until it's challenged by someone in the Courts. DVLA don't make the law, they just make it up.

Guess danger is you get pulled by plod as colour doesn't match. This was a problem on the early Smart cars as some registered as colour of tridion rather than the swappable panels.
