Tony
This image is from a Saxo that had the nsf wishbone replaced one week ago. The ball joint is factory pressed under much tonnage so should never fail like this...... If you look close it's evident that the splines on the ball joint are non existent so a manufacturing defect seems a likely cause... This is one scary close call for the owner!!! Rich
That don't look too clever! Did they bring the car in for this problem or something else?
Tony
That don't look too clever! Did they bring the car in for this problem or something else? The initial complaint was a knocking joint. We replaced this last week. Today the car returned with a similar complaint. Obviously we never expected this! The wishbone was replaced using another manufacturer. Rich
Do you think it was just a one off then if you haven't experienced this before? I've been looking at some lower arms for mine already poly bushed made by deflex. The ball joints are bolted on though, is this ok to do or should they be riveted? Rich
If that had come right out it could've been nasty, especially on a motorway :graduated:

The joint has a retaining circlip designed to stop the joint moving up and out. This is the most dangerous departure. As you can see this safeguard failed.
