Rich
Now that is interesting, I will make sure all my tyres have the recommended speed rating in future.
Rich
Oh yeah I got those alloys and they are almost spotless, just a couple of minor marks. Those steel rims sold for £120!!
parthiban
Just shows what a funny world ebay is! Good buy!
Rich
Question about the speed and load rating: Recommended for the car is 91 V. Is it ok to go higher than this, would that cause issues? Looking at 94 V XL (Extra Load?).
adam_r
no problem at all I did this all the time
SMARTLY
Doesn't it mean the sidewalls will be a bit stiffer?
adam_r
and? slightly firmer ride.. and not that noticeable.
Rich
That's cool then. Also with winter tyres I have read/been told that you can drop 1 speed rating. For the 17" wheels on the Accord the speed rating is W. On the 16" wheels it's V so I've been told I could in fact fit a H rating. I'm not so sure I want to though, any thoughts - Tony? adam_r
Rich IIRC my father phoned up his insurance and told them he was putting a lower speed rated tyre on his accord. they didnt mind as he argued the speed limit is 70mph, and the car can only do 130ish.. so why have a tyre that can cope with 167mph
Rich
I have been told it's fine by my insurance company as well. It's the difference in how the tyre has been made between the different ratings that is a concern after the issues I had with the Goodyears. I can get Toyo Snowprox 94V for £67 delivered plus fitting or Michelin Alpin A4 91H for £105 fitted.
adam_r
I would go for the toyos as long as their ratings are good. not bad for around £80 fitted
Rich
I have found a handful of reviews for the Toyo compared to hundreds for the Michelin and I could get those today. The Toyo is a 5 day delivery but allow for 30 worst case.
Rich
That's another thing, when did tyre fitting costs go up so much! I always try to give BB my work but I phoned a local guy who I've used in the past and he now charges £15 a tyre, BB are a few quid more.
