Tony
I think the tools make the man..... Can't be in the UK though because all the fluids have to be disposed of cleanly right down to the oil in the dampers.
Viking
usedcarparts.co.uk on the machinery, and a uk registration plate on the car they're dismantling. Even a UK phone number on the side of the skip.
Tony
Yeah but they still have to divide the fluids etc for correct "friendly" disposal or is that just the US?
Viking
My local scrap yard doesn't bother too much with any fluids present in the old oil tanks we drop there.
Tony
I can recall when i worked for STS a drum of oil had to be on a tray able to hold all the contents should it spill .
Viking
Called a bund. Has to be able to hold 110% of the contents of the drum.
Tony
That's the one...So i we had to have them in the UK then a breakers would have to comply to the same standard.
Viking
To be fair, the way they recycle vehicles in the video means there's pretty much nothing that's worth recycling to the paying public at the end of the job. I wouldn't want an engine which had been removed that way. If they don't care about the parts they're removing then I doubt they care too much about a bit of an oil spill. Tony
Agreed the dismantling is more a separation of materials. My dad ran a breakers for several years and although it was some time back there was laws about oil contamination but these were only boarder limits meaning no oil was allowed to migrate outside of the compound, they could do what they liked inside the compound.
