I suspect that it's more to do with the low resolution (or large zoom) of the recording device, it doesn't seem too good at fast moving objects.

 

Rapid changes such as the appearance of the other vehicles also produce a laggy image.

agree with the above, video compression uses several techniques and one of which is to recognise changes in an area being recorded. This type of low quality footage is highly compressed meaning that if somone wearing normal combat camauflage were to quickly pass an area which closely matched their uniform, the tollerence of the level of compression would dissolve the image information into the background. It was simply too close a colour and too fast a movement.

 

when he enters an area of high contrast against his uniform the difference in colour and the speed of his movement falls within the tollerence of the compression so his beige uniform shows clearly against the darker vehical.

 

I personally think video compression is far more plausable and explains why he is the wrong colour when he gets ontop of the vehical.
