My WIM Experience...

Recommended Posts

I have recently purchased a Mercedes CLS and although under warranty from the main dealer, there were two problems I had which I wanted sorted before piling the miles on. 1 being uneven tyre wear and 2 a small vibration problem from the front of the car.

My previous vehicle, a Mercedes CLK, had a very similar issue. The car had been everywhere, Pro-Tyre, Mercedes, Wheels VT (Merc Indi), but nobody was able to cure the issues. I was passed WIM's details by another member on mbclub.co.uk, so booked in to see Tony. Tony fixed my problems on the CLK first time, and the car was perfect throughout my ownership.

So having learned from the past, I booked straight in to WIM to have the geometry checked and corrected, and 2 new tyres. Having had the work done by the guys in WIM, my pocket was a bit lighter and I had hoped all of my issues were cured.

The alignment was pretty much spot on, although being a bit of a perfectionist, I noticed the steering wheel wasnt completely straight (well not to my eye) and that was quickly corrected by WIM a few days later.

During the geometry stage, it was noticed 2 wheels on the nearside of the car had flat spots on the inner edge. This was the cause of the vibration. So a quick call to the supplying dealer, and 2 wheels were delivered for me to get fitted at a garage of my choice. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue, and the vibration still existed.

Another inspection of the wheels again, found a 3rd wheel to have a very small, hardly noticeable dent, again on the inside edge. The guys at WIM tried everything possible to remove it, unfortunately the vibration still continued.

Having exhausted every possible option, including a wheel repair, I decided to go back to the dealer to try and get another wheel from them. The arguement proved rather difficult, but luckily, the supplying salesman was around which helped me a lot. Having purchased 3 cars from the salesman this year, two being brand new for my parents, the salesman did everything he possibly could to resolve the issue. After all, my family have spent nearly £100k with him this year alone! He secured me a new wheel, and had it delivered to me within the hour.

This has now resolved all of my issues and the car is a joy to drive!

Basically, I know this is kinda long winded, but I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everybody at WIM. I didnt catch everyones names, but Mick, Luke and all of the others were absolutely brilliant in putting up with my regular visits over the last 2 weeks and ensuring that I got to the bottom of the problem and I was entirely happy with everything that they have done for me. I will definitely use WIM again and continually reccommend them to anyone who requires nothing but the best when it comes to their pride and joy. I just hope I didnt drive anyone at WIM too mad with my constant visits to a point they wont let me back!

Cheers

Amit

Thanks for the detailed report Amit, if you don't mind i will add this to our "customer testimonial" area in the web-sites.

The wim attitude that comforts owners is that we recognize the customers complaint, there must be a reason for the complaint so no matter what make of car it is, we need to look outside of the box and confidently solve the problem, but this needs to be done without "blanket bombing" the solution.

The end steering position is cosmetic since the chassis positions are correct, nevertheless this imperfection is in your face and so annoying, in view of this i have recently added a new SOP at the centre,"Standard Operational Procedure", this concludes that the owner or another member of staff agrees the steering position at the end of the calibration.

I would like to think that owners who have passed through the wim centre or indeed read this board have a better understanding of what to expect in the fast fit arena..... I shall blab on now on how i think the entire industry should work.

1: Most important thing is the customer in front of you, not the ones waiting, reads contradictory but if you have customers waiting, manage your in house bookings better or employ more staff.

2: Training!!!, training!!, training!.... I have many centre's around the UK now but before they can calibrate our customers cars they have a day or two training at the wim HQ. To maintain their in house structure i even train their instructors, within 5min i have them broken even at the simplest level of understanding..... Now i have their attention.

3: Remove any bonus incentive, staff and management.

4: A licence to calibrate..... At the moment anyone can calibrate the chassis, even with no training, this could lead to anything including rapid/ expensive tyres wear, handling issues or even death. I fail to understand how anyone can do this unregulated.

Sorry about the drone but you taking the time to join wim and thank us is very gratifying but also it's so wrong that an industry that claims to understand it's "own industry" failed, leading you on this path.

Off box now......

Hi Tony, not a problem at all regarding the post in your testimonials ;)

- parthiban, Now that WIM have sorted my vibration issues, the car is an absolute dream to drive! I did a 300 mile round trip to March (nr. Cambridge) on wednesday, was great fun tapping in on the torque to overtake over and over up the A414. Love the car, the look and now the feel too!

Great stuff, glad it's all been sorted - must agree, one of the great things is how it's great at munching miles but also fun in the twisties.....which engine have you got? We've got a 350 which is perfectly fine, but sometimes wonder whether we should have got a V8 ;) :D

I went for the 320CDI, purely on the miles I do (approximately 30000 a year)!

Tony, was just checking out the testimonials, and found this:

Well it's not for a TT, but four weeks ago I had four wheel alignment done in Slough (ProTyre) and afterwards, my car felt that it was all over the place on the motorway. I was recommended these guys by a friend, and Tony at Wheels in Motion knows exactly what he is doing. I was out of the door with my car going in a straight line, steering straight and most importantly, feeling solid on the road. Tony did not let the car go until he was completely happy that everything was "spot on" rather than "within spec".

Wheels in Motion specialise in alignment only and do lots of race setups. Tony said they have had many TTs in but mostly do Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, and Lexus cars. They also specialise in Mercedes pulling issues hence me going there.

They also have their sister company next door (BlackBoots.co.uk) offering tyres and balancing. I definitely will be using them for all my alignment needs going forward. If you do a search for them on google you will find many testimonials such as this one from many forums including mbclub.co.uk and Lexus forums.

For alignment, you have to book in, as Tony can get very busy, but for balancing and tyres, you can just show up.

This was my testimonial I left on the TT Forum having just sold my TT, and purchased the CLK which you worked on back in Feb 2009
