My trackday at Driftlimits.......

Quite an experience.... First i must say it's a very well organised event involving everything from Drift training to supercar challenge. All done with a constant flow of new drivers ready for their experience.

The day starts with a 30min briefing highlighting the do's and don't s, safety instructions and the track layout for each experience. Obviously the drift cars don't run on the same track as the supercars.

Once done i then had some "sighting laps". For this i'm a passenger with an instructor driving at the limit highlighting turning markers and braking zones. I must say at this point i was shatting myself convinced he was going to roll the car which was an Evo or he had totally forgot the Evo does come with brakes.

The cars

I was in the Ferrari F430 challenge

This is a fully race ready turn key challenge car but....? With dual peddles

So looking like

Now calling the Ferrari a "challenge" car rang absolutely true because the challenge was getting in. What with the helmet, roll cage and my mobility problems i must have looked like i was having a fit. In fact i drew a crowd hence another driver and photographer watching on.

On track your given a few warm up laps to get a feel for the car and heat into the tyres. My instructor who i must add was at least half my age was superb. As the laps rolled by he encouraged me to go faster, brake harder, or not a all and turn tighter.... For the entire time i don't think i blinked once, the concentration was that intense.

Superb day all in all, my only criticism is the straights are to short meaning i don't get out of 3rd. Saying that having novice drivers driving at full supercar speed wouldn't be a wise move.

Fastest car of the day was the Lambo, although at the start it looked like it wasn't going to make it.

In addition to all the driving experiences they also do stunt driving which i didn't see on the day but it did kind of explain the rocket in the distance in this picture

In truth it was nothing like i expected.. There were way more supercars than i thought, it was much bigger but despite this it was superbly organised.

I would think a Saturday is a premium day but there must have been 50 staff there, 30 of which were in the cars with the drivers. They also do under 17yld driver days in MX5's. While i was there i saw two coaches full of kids. I think it's a great idea for kids not only to have fun but to understand there's a difference between the road and track.

I was on the super car circuit, only downside is both straights were a bit short but as said i think this was deliberate. Even though i didn't get out of 3rd i would think i was still doing 80mph albeit for a short time.
