AdsGUK
Hi WIMI wondered if you could help me.I recently had the front droplinks replaced on my MX5 Nc. Unfortunatley shortly afterwards one snapped. It looked as if it was installed incorrectly so the garage replaced both fronts free of charge again for me.On inspection they look to be correctly installed this time however they look to be different designs on each side?? Is this correct, I think I read somehere they are different on the left and right.Would this have a major affect on handling?, ride is improved but steering still feels a little light. I plan to have the Geo adjusted as I recently replaced my shocks aswell. Or would this be wasted efforts?....ive attached pics below. Any advice would be great. Rich
To me they look fine, it's only the casing that is different. As long as the lengths are the same they should be fine. Are they the same brand?
AdsGUK
Apparently they are same brand. Garage said they just used a different brand to the ones that snapped. I did look to see if they are same length. Looks as if they are. The ride is better with these as opposed to the previous ones that had to be replaced - although I reckon those were fitted the wrong way around! Oddly the steering feel was slighty better that way?? They were at an extereme angle before. Heres one after it snapped!!
Rich
It doesn't seem to have snapped but the casing has popped off the ball joint and yes that probably happened from being fitted incorrectly or it was just faulty to start with. Tony
The way it broke is typical for the NC drop-link since they really are a weak link. They are not handed so there's no left/ right fitting and when broken the only determinable symptom is body roll on the corner and over-steer. AdsGUK
Thanks for the info. So looks as if it was incorrectly fitted before! Ill try and book another visit for geo to be done if the new drop links look ok. Would you guys be able to check the install of the droplinks on the day, just want to be sure the garage fitted correctly. Thanks.

super josh
The way it broke is typical for the NC drop-link since they really are a weak link. Do you recommend uprated ones then Tony? Cheers, Josh
Tony
Yeah. MX5 parts do a solid adjustable link which is fire and forget in my opinion.
Mac5
Hi Chaps I'm thinking of upgrading to the IL Motorsport adjustable drop links, which I'm assuming you would be happy to fit, but is it worthwhile polybushing the ARBs at the same time? Cheers Neil
Tony
Hi Neil It's a simple job and they will tighten things up so i would say yes be warned though they tend to squeak like a bugger so be sure to use the grease provided.

Tony
It would really help if the links come with new nylock nuts...
Mac5
As far as I can tell they come supplied with nuts, but the fronts are out of stock at the moment, so might go direct to IL Motorsport. Neil
Tony
Most do come with nuts because they know most times the old ones need to be cut off.... Personally i fail to understand why they use nylock nuts on a redundant component?
Luki78
Hi, sorry, don't want to start the same topic. When MX 5 lowered with Eibach 30 mm (rear is about 20-25mm) should I replace arb links for adjustable ? Or OEM are good enough ?
Tony
If your OEM ones are ok then don't worry... In truth Mazda got it wrong with the OEM links by making then with plastic so the likes of MX5 parts now offer metal links.
