Rich
Horsey is a tiny village within the Norfolk Broads, it has a population of about 100 and is a nature reserve with the most popular animal being the seals. They spend the winter months (Nov - Feb) on the beach having their pups and we are only up there between April and September. I've done this walk a few times now but only ever seen a couple of seals in the sea until last week when I saw about 50+ on the beach. These photos are from just one group, although there were more along the coast we didn't stay for that long. I could easily have spent the day watching them, nature is awesome I took a video to give an idea of how many there were. Some I took on the walk to the beach. parthiban
Great pictures, do you have a big telephoto lens or did you get quite close up for some of those pics?
Rich
No sitting on the beach there then!....... Really nice pictures Rich, i always think that the seals look so sad don't you. You could if you wanted to, there is loads of room. They seemed happy enough, some were even getting frisky!! Great pictures, do you have a big telephoto lens or did you get quite close up for some of those pics? My biggest lens is a 55-200, which is what I used for all the photos. I was around 8-10 foot away from them and you shouldn't get too close, they have a nasty bite and can move pretty quick, especially in breeding season when they have the pups nearby! Sadly some people don't follow those rules and go to stroke them! If you get too close they will move away from you though and they are always watching your every move. Rich
The first one isn't that old and still a pup, it didn't really move like the adults. They probably look annoyed from everyone looking at them and taking photos!

Rich
Some photos from when we went up last weekend to see the seal pups shortly after they're born so all of them are under 4 weeks old. We usually go around March/April time and any that are left on the beach have grown to nearly adult size. Sadly we saw a dead adult seal that had fallen (or been pushed by the tide) off the sand and became wedged between a post and the sea defence. It's pup was calling for her the whole time and very confused. It kept going in the sea when it's not ready yet but luckily came back out. The wardens were aware and keeping an eye on the pup. Hopefully they managed to rescue it. You can just see the pups head by the rocks. It couldn't really swim in the sea, the tide brought him back to the beach. Looking for Mum Headed back to the sea where it was in the water for around 5 minutes. Managed to get back out again. It looked pretty drained now and was obviously knackered. Luckily it went up towards the base of the dunes and away from the sea.
Tony
Really sad the pup had lost it's mum ... At least we know it's being watched.... Nice clear pictures Rich.
Rich
Hopefully the pup has survived. It's a good job we told a warden otherwise it might have been left even longer before being spotted on it's own. The warden did see the dead seal before but thought it was rubbish caught around the post. He didn't have a camera or binoculars on him, we had both.
