Michelle Briers-staniforth
hi, i have a 2.0 2001 mondeo it recently needed the front suspension arms replacing as it failed on the MOT also the rear shocks have been replaced, since then there is vibration on the front. we took it back to the garage but with no luck...... feel like they are fobbing us off. any suggestions to what can cause this. there is play in the rear anti roll bar (rubber mounts both sides) can this cause the vibration thanks

Tony
Is the car on OEM wheels or after market wheels.
Michelle Briers-staniforth
they are ford wheels
Tony
Ok let's get this clear... Up until the repair there was no vibration. You haven't had any new tyres fitted, had the front wheels balanced, or had the tyres rotated and please be sure on that one?
Michelle Briers-staniforth
had two rear tyres back in september there was no vibration before the work was done not rotated tyres and front wheels are balanced, also they said they had done the tracking which had to be done because they dropped the front end to put the suspension arms on
adam_r
get wheel ballance checked... although 40mph does seem rather low to start the vibration. when they fitted the suspension arms, did they torque the bolts up with any pre-load on them? maybe the lower arm had no preload when being torqued, couple this with a slight ballance issue with a tyre and it could vibrate like this. or, one lasr stab.... check the torque level on the drive shaft nut... if this is not tight enough it can cause a vibration.... but then you would notice it at low speed like tony mentioned
Rich
It's a strange one and I'm wondering if they've put everything back together how it should be. Or maybe they have just knocked a balancing weight off the wheels.
Tony
It could be that simple but 40mph seems to low a speed for a balance error... Well obviously the wheel balance needs to be checked but i'm not confident.... Michelle is the vibration a gentle pulse or a feeling like you need to correct the cars line, meaning a correctional pulse.
Michelle Briers-staniforth
it's a gentle pulse, i took my car today to check the tracking...... and guess what the garage that said they had done it hasn't, but they also said that if the driveshaft came out when the front end was dropped then it might not have been put back correctly, will find out tomorrow as the garage are looking at it, all the wheels are balanced fine had that checked to, adam_r not sure what they did as i wasn't there when the work was done, as they had my car all day. Tony
Drive train is the likely criminal since the vibration is at such a low speed.
Michelle Briers-staniforth
the tracking have be sorted and the vibration has stopped, but i saw them doing somthing near the driver side front wheel so i think something was wrong and thery are not saying what all i know i will not be using kwik fit again. thankyou all for thte help
Tony
Your welcome, please don't abandon ship now....... In truth the tracking cannot cause a vibration so your suspicions must be correct something else was wrong and dealt with out of sight..... But whatever it's sorted now and all of us here in wim enjoy results
