parthiban
The tyre test on this week's fifth gear was interesting, they were comparing a renault scenic on its standard continental eco tyres, then on matador budgets and finally a cheap mixed up set of part worns. Although the contis performed best overall, in the wet braking test they took considerably longer to stop than the other two sets of tyres - put down to the fact they were low rolling resistance tyres. Is this fixation with economy and emissions creating a genuine safety hazard?
Tony
Would certainly seem that way, it's a case you can't have more traction but less rolling resistance.
liner33
It was interesting I would be very interested myself in the comparisons with winter tyres as well , its often said that summer tyres drop off below 7 degrees and we know that winter tyres work really well in ice and snow but how does a winter tyre work on a dry winter road at say 10 degrees compared to a summer tyre ?? Tony
They become very sticky and wear out fast.
