Bought my car this time last year , found the cleanest example I could with nice but subtle mods , previous owner had spent a fair bit on it shortly before I bought it but I’m pretty fussy So in one year of ownership and around 5000 miles Bits bought Gizzmo MC-IBC Boost controller Aux pulley Aux belt Aux tensioner pulley bearing Oil temp gauge and sender Gizzmo shift light Kenwood Head Unit Kenwood Ipod interface Vibe amplifier DLS front speakers JBL rear Speakers Fuel filler pipe Rear lower arm inner and outer bushes Rear shock absorber poly bushes Eibach progressive springs Whiteline rear ARB Steering rack ends and gaiters Track rod ends New intercooler Hard pipe kit Stainless Turbo elbow New Lambda sensor (OEM) Japspeed downpipe and system Willians Harnesses Nevereverman shifter bushes and shifter base kit Quickshifter kit Type R gearknob Kelsport heat shield New battery New actuator Silicon coolant hose kit Silicon intake hose kit New set of wheels SJS Carbon slam panel US spec oil filler cap R spec dump valve E8/9 Metal type dump valve Front strut brace Openport cable and Ecuflash Innovate LM Wideband logger LH & RH Trailing arms (Was an advise on last months MOT) Ralliart exhaust rubbers Ralliart air suction and battery relocation kit Other work done In addition to fitting most if not all of the above Removed fuel tank cleaned underside of car , painted and undersealed Rebuilt brakes x 3 (Still squeal) Cleaned lash adjusters (Still rattle ) Sprayed rocker cover Removed turbo , replaced manifold studs , gaskets and manifold Replaced every jubilee clip I could Steam cleaned plastics and wet vacced interior Alignment done three times Replaced dash bulbs and climate control with blue leds Tweaked the map myself a few times Bled the brakes Changed the coolant x 2 Changed the oil and filter x 3 Changed the plugs Removed the SAS Fitted camcorder mount on rear shelf Replaced the washer jets with Volvo items Fitted HID’s and then removed them in favour of uprated bulbs Some befores
  2. Suicide bombings and roadside bombs are the acts of a desperate people who have no other means of fighting a war. I think they are brave heroic soldiers fighting for what they believe however misguided they are. I would like to think that some people would act the same way if this country was invaded by a vastly superior and better equipped force One mans freedom fighter and all that As for killing innocent people you are back to my point initially that we as a coalition force have killed more innocent people than any terrorist force ....ever. I fully support our guys over there but I also believe they never should have gone and by doing so the powers that be have put civilians at home in far more risk
  3. I'm firmly in the "Two wrongs dont make a right" camp. I'm no weak minded liberal i spent 10 years in the forces but cant help thinking there is a better solution here
  4. Problem i have with that is a lot of the time they are using ordanance in built up areas , often in villages its all very well seeing the bad guys blown to pieces but you cant be sure they arent civilain casulties when dropping stuff from 5000ft In a war where we are trying to win hearts and minds bombing isnt the best way to achieve that if anything it will toughen their resolve , if the might of the USSR couldnt beat these people with force how can we expect to ?
  5. Mostly yanks Ironic on the day its revealed 66,000 civilians were killed in Iraq
  6. Makes sense, I guess you need the different tread pattern of winter tyres to dig into the snow. What tyres did you have on the evo then and I guess they're pretty wide as well? 225/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics so not wide by todays standards
  7. I took my Evo out in the snow last year , traction wasnt an issue but stopping was thats where winter tyres would be of benefit
  8. I like that No7 but find it fussy to add a second coat on so normally leave it over night
  9. That doesn't explain why though, just states the fact. If you have 13" wheels then the brakes obviously have to be smaller than that. There is no information as to "why" relating to either of those dimensions though. If anything having larger wheels with lower profile tyres would provide a greater advantage than larger brakes. You mean why do they have 13" wheels ?? Thats already mentioned because thats what size they are allowed in the technical regs , the reason behind it is to limit the size of the brakes. I'm certainly not convinced that larger brakes is less of an advantage then stiffer sidewalls , the larger sidewalls they currently have maximises the tyres footprint under load. Weight is another thing as again unlike normal cars the wheels are magnesium and super light (mate had a 10x15" ex-indy car wheel on his dragbike and it was amazingly light you could hang it from your little finger) if a lower profile tyre was used the wheel would have to be made stronger and almost certainly heavier
  10. Post above yours "F1 cars have very small brakes too. IIRC they fit under 13" wheels." There is an interview with Mike Gascoyne on the net where he discusses the wheel sizes and the fact the 13" rule limits brake disc sizes and that given the choice they would run larger wheels and lower profile tyres
  11. CIH covered the reason for 13" wheels above , ie to limit the braking given the choice F1 teams would not run 13" wheels and tyres for sure but its in the rules and thats that
  12. Dragsters do but they have soft sidewalls the cars are set to exploit this growth as an extra gear If F1 cars did grow significantly at say 200mph then the ground effects would alter unpredictably as this happened making the cars unstable ie higher speed would mean less downforce it would be impossible to set a car up
  13. If the tyres were designed to flex that much they would be totally flat at 200mph on a straight due to downforce the suspension is hard but does move to absorb bumps , kerbs etc , it doesnt compare to road cars of course but circuits are much much smoother
  14. My w210 E Class had self levelling air suspension. Easy to test Sit in boot, feel suspension sag Get friend to start car Watch/feel car rise up on the suspension MB dealership are in the main hopeless , little more than basic service centres only expensive ones as they used to charge £110ph two years ago !!
  15. Heat is generated by friction higher sidewalls = more flex= more friction = more heat I agree the compound is key but the heat isnt created due to construction it needs the car to generate the friction Nitrogen is used (AS i understand it ) 1) Its a dry gas so no moisture is present and moisture reacts with temperature and will increase the tyre pressure unpredictably 2) Its inert so safer than using oxygen which would do the same 3) Its hold pressure longer than air
  16. To generate heat i thought I guess the fact they only weigh a fraction of a road going car comes into it as well , i always knew they were light but didnt know they were only 620kgs including driver and fuel The cars on their own weigh little more than 400kgs
  17. I remember "claustrophobia" a lowered mini back in the day that started all this off built by a guy call ed Andy Saunders his website is here along with a few of his Creations http://www.andysaunderskustoms.co.uk/kustoms/cars
  18. I had factory fit Contis 3's on my Skoda Superb but since its a FWD I dunno if its relevant but I really hated them they are noisier than the FI's and the wear wasnt great a full set had gone in around 18k , bearing in mind this is a daily hack up and down the motorway thats not great That said other Superb drivers really like them , performance wise i had no issues , way more tyre than the car really needs in my case
  19. Please wait a few moments for Video to Load! I used to have one of these along with another 20 or so different ones
  20. I had a very close call yesterday on a dual carriageway , i was only doing around 50mph in the lh lane going up a hill when the car in front suddenly slammed on his brakes , dunno why i presumed he was braking lightly due to getting close to the truck in front but he just stopped dead . I think perhaps he stalled it and panicked , he was driving a 1.9 Octavia and i know my 2.0 one will stall if you let the revs drop too low in 6th , guess the lower power models will stall even easier I went up his inside and the truck behind me only just stopped in time , i noticed today in the same place there was a 7 car crash , its the truckers fault usually they slow down due to the steep hill and then pull out into the rh lane doing 30mph as they cant wait a moment to overtake.
  21. there is nothing to say it has to have a cat ! just that it needs to pass emmisions but they do need to have a model to base the emmissions figure on when its an imported model with no equavalent in this country, it starts getting difficult for them yeah used to be but more and more are added to the databases my Skyline wasnt on there for the first two years i had it but was added later and from 2011 there will be stricter rules for diesels whole thing is a nonsense , i had my Octavia done today (sailed through) but the tester showed me a heavily corroded brake disc that up until recently would have been a fail but provided it passes the brake test condition is now unimportant unless its actually cracked
  22. I just passed the mot with my Lancer with no cat on it , doesnt mean its legal Yep red lenses on yanks arent legal many people fit temporary indicators like motorcycle ones and then remove them after the test , or like me just find a friendly mot guy
