Tony
Thinking of getting this for the F360 My thinking is to let the engine breath some more but other than the sound are they really worth it?
liner33
No might even cost a few horses but it will add a little induction roar
Tony
I must admit engines are not my thing... The 1.8VVTI needs a bit more grunt so i was hoping for a quick fix... Seems like a turbo is the way to go?
Rich
A filter won't give you much performance, you definitely need a turbo if you want more power.
Tony
To late.... Prior to this thread i ordered it with the option to send it back... Well it came today and i like the look of it so i've decided to fit it. To be continued...
Rich
Are you getting a heat shield for it?
Tony
So much for "universal" it didn't fit.... Basically there's nowhere to put the air censor so i'm sending it back. So the £40 goes back and now i'm getting a K&N built for the MR2 for £
Rich
You normally have to modify universal ones to make them fit. I personally think they're a waste of money and you're better off with a decent replacement filter.
Tony
The more air the better the combustion hence the performance air intake which is one step nearer to a turbo...Thing with the universal one is as said there was no provision for the airflow sensor and some other plumbing the current air box has and yes the MR2 K&N comes with a heat shield. liner33
very little you can do on a normally aspriated engine to make a significant difference ,arent there supercharger kits available also ?
Tony
To be honest i haven't looked... It's only a 1.8 so could the internals take a charger?
liner33
if they can take a turbo then they can take a charger isnt that the same engine thats in the Lotus?
Tony
No that had a 2.0L engine and looked very different.

liner33
i KNOW THAT !.Superchargers and turbos are popular upgrades for the Elise , if yours has the same engine then bonus
Tony
Oh i don't know if it's the same?
Tony
K&N intake fitted including the correct fitting for the intake sensor.... First impressions are no additional noise but a noticeable change in acceleration. It's hard to explain but before it seems the car was struggling to breath. Now my thoughts are maybe a performance cat?

Rich
Looks like a con to me, I can't really see that offering any performance gains.
Tony
By the forced air induction i think?
Rich
Looks like a gimmick to me, just an air filter with a fan attached to it. Reviews seem to suggest it isn't very good.
liner33
lol a total waste of money
Tony
Why?... Does it work the same as a supercharger, albeit low pressure? Rich the reviews are mixed although i don't understand why?
Rich
I don't understand the workings too much but a charger is belt driven by the engine isn't it? This filter would be like attaching a hairdryer to the end of it so it blows a bit more air in to the engine. I don't think there is any comparison between the two.
