Rich
What is the correct way...with the weight of the car on them or off? With the weight on the car they are solid, although I can twist them from side to side. Something tells me I need to check them with the car jacked up though? Tony
On or off the ground feel for up/ down movement.
Rich
No up/down movement on the ground, I can just twist them. I will check with the car jacked up, do both sides need to be in the air or just one?
Tony
The twist is normal.
hms
Are they rose jointed? H
Rich
No just bog standard ones. This is on the Civic and they're very short compared to what the Mondeo had.
hms
Surely is they are not rose jointed, but drubber bushed, there should be no movement! Twist or otherwise? H Or am I wrong again!
phipck
there are a massive range of drop link styles for depending on the car, the MR2's are quite long and can twist, but the starlet are "fixed rods" with rubber bushings at each end so dont twist. in my mind, because they are designed to link the sway bar there should be no up and down movement, else the energy wont be transfured, but twisting is irrelevent especially if like the MR2 they are required to twist in their operation. hms
The mx5 standard are rubber, but the Steve Heath links I have will twist, die to the rose joints. No up or down movement though, as expected! H
Rich
Same as these
Rich
So what's the answer, should they twist or not?
Tony
Yes.
Rich
Good, just need to test them with the car jacked up then.
Tony
Move the ARB up/ down to feel for a knock, not the link, also check the ARB mounts.
Rich
Should both sides be up in the air?
Tony
Ideally yes because if you only jack one side the ARB will be loaded.
