ChannelZ
I posted another thread a little while ago, about my Mondeo and it's odd handling. Well, it was eating the inside of the tyres on the front as well, so a new set of wishbones later, wear stopped. But, steering was a bit strange, the wheel not wanting to centre as well as before. Went to the local tyre place and got a 4 wheel alignment done. I've only had half a mile of a test drive back to work, and I didn't really notice much difference. I wonder could Tony comment on the settings?
Tony
OSF camber and castor values are an issue... It looks like the wishbone is damaged.
ChannelZ
It's a new wishbone fitted in January, so less than 1000 miles ago. Replaced both as the bottom joints were knackered. Do you think the new one is stuffed?
Tony
Difficult one...... You say the steering return became lazy after the wishbones were replaced, was any other work done at the same time?
ChannelZ
Difficult one...... You say the steering return became lazy after the wishbones were replaced, was any other work done at the same time? New top mounts and ARB links all round. The old top mounts were totally and utterly shot (bearings fell out).
Tony
Are the top mounts round or asymmetrical?
ChannelZ
Are the top mounts round or asymmetrical? Standard Mk3 Mondeo ones, I think they're round.
Rich
Same as the MK2 I think so yeah round. You checked the knuckle isn't bent or the shock?
ChannelZ
No idea mate, I'd assume the shocks are OK as they're new last year (Monroe Reflex). No knocks or big potholes hit, so I'm at a loss. Maybe just a bad wishbone?
Tony
Did you change the tyres as well.
89mustang
Worth pulling subframe to balance caster and camber, I would think.
ChannelZ
Did you change the tyres as well. Tyres are brand new Pirelli P7, replacing the worn Uniroyals.
ChannelZ
Worth pulling subframe to balance caster and camber, I would think. I'm starting to think about pulling the subframe (and the rest of the car) over a very high cliff.
ChannelZ
Someone else's problem now, traded it in yesterday. Collecting the new motor next Monday.

Rich
Well that's one way of dealing with the problem!
ChannelZ
Nothing very exciting - a Mk5 Astra. 5 door in Elite spec, so electric everything, auto everything else, climate, leather seats, etc. Only the 1.7CDTI, though, but should be cheaper to run than the Mondeo. Having had 4 Astras (3 Mk4s, 1 Mk5) before, I know them like the back of my hand. Kept the better of the tyres off the Mondeo, putting them on the Astra, dealer has fitted FateO and Accelera budgets on the car, so keeping my Pirellis and selling the car with the Dunlop winters I don't like.
