Bazza
looks like a new tyre might be needed good job it was on the rear
Tony
That's the problem with modern cars/tyres they handle so well flat your not aware..... Eventually the rim cuts through the tyre sidewall like yours.
Bazza
to be honest it was only the slight difference in noise that made me stop ! had just pulled off the M1
Tony
to be honest it was only the slight difference in noise that made me stop !had just pulled off the M1 Imagine that at 70mph on the off ramp It makes you add credibility to the RFT. Bazza
What's the story behind this? i was driving up the M1 yesterday as i was pulling off at a junction started hearing a noise, which wasnt that loud , thought i had better pull in just to check noticed tyre was flat took it off and discovered the inner wall was cut right through to about three quarters of the tyre`s circumference the car hadn`t handled any different, and to be honest if i wasnt in a rush or it had been raining i wouldnt have bothered stopping ! exactly when the tyre had deflated i dont know but it had just been subject to motorway speeds just think it might have made a big difference had it been on the front
Tony
The worst possible place for a deflation or a blowout is the rear...... You are very lucky.

You are very lucky. really ! i would have thought the front would have been far worse being FWD and that Misconception i'm affraid. A blowout on the rear invites over-steer, whereas a blowout on the front allows the immediate option to correct the steering. Historically sudden deflation at the rear will need skill to realize and control the vehicle. A deflation at the front will lead (most times) to an under-steer situation that hopefully in the worst case scenario involves a head on impact. jon
That depends if you're heading for a tree or not at the time of blow out Seriously though, I'm glad you got away with this one. As Tony said, no grip at the rear means a car enjoys swapping ends far more than is healthy.
Rich
Glad you weren't hurt These RFT worth getting then? Are they much more than normal tyres? Few years ago I had a blowout on the M11 in me escort, was doing a good 70 and the rear one went pop! No road lights or hard shoulder, I was bricking it but kept it straight and pulled over to change it. If it's worse going at the rear I take I did well to stop the car then?!
