Hi,

Step 5 should be "add 1015"....

Basically you enter your shoe size and it multiplies it into the hundred & thousand part of the number. the rest of the addition/subtraction is just fiddling about.

e.g. Shoe size = 8

x5 = 40

add 50 =90

multiply by 20 = 1800 - now your shoe size is x8xx (if you have a shoe size > 9, then the first digit will be "2")

Add 1014 = 2814, (or 1015 = 2815)

subtract 2000 (year I was born  ) = 0814 (or 0815)

so the "8" has been kept, and the age is simple a subtraction....

Enjoy!

CP09 is right, but it might be easier to see if you call your shoe size "A" so that it remains separate and visible throughout the manipulation.

So:-

1) Take your shoe size = A

2) Multiply it by 5 = 5A

3) Add 50 = 5A + 50

4) Multiply by 20 = 100A + 1000

The designer of the manipulation wants your shoe size to appear as the first digit or two, of a number that ends in double zero. 100A is always going to have this form e.g. size 9 gives 9 x 100 = 900. He wants the second element of the number to be the same as the current year. So this year, 2015, we need to add a further 1015, thus:-

5) Add 1015 (the puzzle says 1014, but that is because it was set up last year and should have been changed for 2015). 100A + 2015.

6) Subtract the year you were born. And of course taking away your date of birth from the current year is bound to give your age. For Tony this gives:

    100A + 51 or 900+51 = 951
