mattanna
Hi all i have a Toyota Aristo v300 which is producing about 300bhp at the rear wheels. It has Tein hr coilovers fitted and the car is slightly lower than standard. It has 18 inch wheels with 235/40 tyres.I wanted to have alignment checked so took it for 4 wheel laser alignment, their computer only had settings for standard Lexus gs300(same car body and chassis wise) and told me that camber toe everything was out, and because it had aftermarket suspension they would not touch it. I had not thought about the suspension, so what i am asking is that is there any way of truly aligning a modified suspension setup?, the car has no handling problems other than spinning me 180 degrees on a dual carriage way slip road yeaterday due to greasy roads and 1st turbo coming in The garage that fitted the teins set it up probably with a bit of toe in for grip etc but all this is double dutch to me.I wanted to check alignment after my spin although i don't think this damaged it, what advice do you have. I presume comparing my car to a stock car on alignment computer is pointless?? cheers Matt
scorps
All cars can achieve a set up wether its on STD shocks or coilovers but depends how low the car is as the cameras have to have room to hang off the wheel. Tony will be along shortly and explain everything. Oh and welcome to the club
Tony
Hello Matt welcome to wim. It is very possible to calibrate the chassis despite what you have been lead to believe. Most shops won't calibrate a modified car since the end positions are theoretical and need to be manufactured from the ground up. An important area to expose is the cars intended use? Domestic, track, drift and so on. Then we need to explore the modifications and the effects on the kinematics. Next we would establish how compliant the car is regarding the actual natural ability for corrective calibration, is this partial or absolute? With the menu and ingredients fully exposed the Geometry positions can be realized as a template and tested. Driver feed back toward handling and a later check on the tyre wear can command the final fine-tuning at the chassis. It all reads complicated but to the specialist this is their day-to-day work. Most clubs/ forums have a section offering suspension debate. This entire forum opens the door much wider and exposes the complete room and all the contents within that no one expected. Have a read of some topics it may help.
