  1. Wife doesn't like the colour, divorce pending perhaps.
  2. Yes a friend sent me the link a couple of days ago, very scary. Don't fully understand how it managed to fly sideways after totally leaving the ground, unless there was one hell of a crosswind. Anyway got one of these in the garage now, and it weighs a good two tons so even if it has more BHP than the IS-F, I can't see it leaving the ground anytime soon.
  3. It was falling, not flying. Both engines failed on climb out after take off so it was stalled and unable to achieve flying speed with the altitude available. Lucky for the few that survived that it fell into the river.
  4. Just try claiming on your insurance in Norway if you have an accident in conditions below 7 degrees Celsius without having fitted winter tyres!
  5. My eardrums took a while to heal after experiencing the ICE in your Lexus. Don't know about "Mission Impossible", more like the "The Italian Job" and the often repeated 'you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off'.
  6. Should have left it in Bahrain. I assume the Company he worked for paid to ship his personal stuff home, or was he stupid enough to think it was worth shipping himself?
  7. The IS-F geometry is as good as the IS250, no uneven wear with the Lexus settings.
  8. There's a privately owned Hawker Hunter based at Kemble (Cotswold Airport) and it's no "Hanger Queen" as it's often flying in the local area. Our gliding club airfield at Aston Down is only a few miles away so we hear that noise quite clearly when it's up.
  9. Not sure the driver is correct in his insistence on the definition of "employed" as the context was "employed in", meaning "be involved in" as opposed to being engaged by another to perform whatever he was doing (driving). Whatever, the guy is a complete arsehole. Full marks to the Police Constable, and would have liked to have seen the conclusion of the discussion.
  10. I see the Duke engine is mentioned at the end of the article, stating it was first run in 2011.

    Lexus IS 250

John, I bought my IS250 new in 2005 and Tony used it as a test bed to check whether it had similar issues to the IS200. I managed to acquire the geometry settings for the IS250 from the Lexus Dealership I bought it from (it was too recent for the Hunter to have the settings in memory), and WIM ensured the geometry was within the Lexus tolerances and checked them every 6 months over the best part of 5 years. The car was lowered before it was two years old and required camber adjusters to bring it back within the standard Lexus settings. Tyre wear was absolutely even across the treads and the only geometry adjustment required over the whole test period was the initial setting and reset after lowering. So in answer to your question, no the IS250 doesn't have the same issues that plagued the IS200/300 and the Lexus settings are OK. I will add that my IS250 did have tramlining issues from new on its Bridgestone Potenzas, but Tony dialed it out on the first geometry check/setting. .
  12. Good job again Christian. Evil looking machine though, wouldn't look out of place in a Mad Max movie .
  13. Looks as if it ruined a good wrap too.......
  14. But he bought it in 2010 for £40K so what would be the book value now? £25K or less? Daily Mail making a big story out of just another car accident, and without any apparent concern for the injuries to the mechanic who was driving it.
  15. We were not in any hurry as my wife was still driving the IS200 Sport and not doing a lot of miles. This one was found by an amazing turn of events or you could say just plain luck just over 3 months ago. Still have the IS200 with my son as the driver. Sizing the winter tyres to fit the RAV didn't work out because they're on the IS200, but better he has the traction on the RWD, with the RAV coping with it's permanent 4WD. Not that we've seen much winter weather, just rain.
  16. Similar colour to the Cadoxton Slate of my IS-F and IS 250 which have Toyota paint code 1GO . I checked the paint code for the RAV and it is 1EO, a shade lighter. Also discovered the 1EO was only used on the 2005 RAVs and was discontinued in 2006 (1GO is still current), so the colour is also rare for that model. Re-assessed the time period based on when Tony fitted the Pirelli Sotto Zero winter tyres on the 17" rims from my IS250. We sized them to it either the IS200 or a RAV4, and from memory that was almost four years ago, so that's how long I've been searching for this 4x4.
  17. Been looking for a RAV4 3 door for my wife as she has wanted one for some time. As Toyota stopped importing the 3 door into the UK in 2005 I thought the chances of finding one in really good condition with low mileage was going to be somewhat of a challenge. However after a couple of years of occasional browsing of car ads I struck very lucky indeed and came across one of the last 2005 models with only 28K on the clock. Really is in almost showroom condition, inside, outside and even underneath. took a few pics having just fitted a couple of OEM side steps. Not the best quality pics as taken with my old iPhone 3g (I know the IS-F needs a wash ) :-
  18. ....and the first guy that did it 52 years ago must have had nuts twice as big as his!
  19. Not the same method. My suggestion was to transmit the sound through Rich's bone structure, not his eardrums. Good tool though, and cheap so I've ordered one.
  20. Rich, have you ever tried resting a screwdriver or similar on the block and holding the handle end against your ear? Just a thought as the sound then travels through the bone structure rather than the ear drum. Only trouble is you hear additional noises that are not readily heard normally
  21. Nice link, I did find one guide on the Accord forum but the photos were missing. Looks like I just need feeler gauges and a honda valve adjustment tool, although I can't seem to find them for sale over here, just the US. You should be able to do it with a screwdriver, ring spanner, and feeler gauges. I imagine the Honda valve adjustment tool is just a combination tool. Take the rocker cover off and have a look
  22. That is interesting, that's still effectively £3000/year road tax which is a fairly hefty charge. I've never been there, but Singapore has fairly impressive public transport though doesn't it? Forgot to add that road tax is in addition to the COE, e.g. a 2 litre car is taxed at around £575.00 per year. In addition there's the ERP (electronic road pricing) system which is effectively a road toll which increases depending on peak periods etc. Cars have to be fitted with an electronic unit which takes a stored value cash card that has cash taken from it 100 feet before passing through the overhead gantries (there's 41 gantries along the major express ways, outer ring road and the inner restricted zone. If you do not have sufficient funds on the card (it can be topped up in shops/stores etc.) the vehicle gets photographed and you pay a fine plus the charge later. The Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) system is brilliant and relatively cheap. Just like the London Tube system but more efficient and a lot cleaner. The same cash card for the ERP can be used on the MRP and buses. If you work around the central area a car is really an inconvenience as parking is difficult to find and also expensive. I used to be cheeky when shopping and take my Proton to Raffles to get their valets to park it, along with all the Ferraris etc. as it was easier/cheaper than paying for the regular parking.
  23. Living there is certainly getting more expensive. Last year I had to go to Malaysia so flew to Singapore and had a one night stopover before crossing the causeway into Malaysia. The cost of the night in Singapore exceeded the cost of the entire four days in Malaysia. http://www.averagesalarysurvey.com/article/average-salary-in-singapore/04234524.aspx
  24. I could only afford to run a Malaysian made Proton . There's about 1 car for every 8 people in Singapore, which is still quite high considering the cost of ownership. Awful lot more mopeds though, especially when all the Malaysian day workers ride across the causeways and join in the daily rush hour(s). The COE for 1601 cc and over is the same price regardless of whether it's a 'supercar' or a bog standard saloon. You're only allowed to drive right hand drives, except under certain circumstances, and importing a second hand car over three years old isn't allowed, so there's not really any cheap options.
