  1. , i never knew it was this event! i was in the lake district a few years back and saw one of the big transporter planes (4 turbo prop jobbies) being 'escorted' by a few jets flying very very low though the valleys, and then had a sequence of other aircraft flying very low / fast. amazing pictures going on there too
  2. thats just the adverage day at WIM isnt it Tony ?
  3. if you catch it quickly enough you can do this. there are a few issues though. 1) you try trying to stall a diesel engine going at full chat producing a fair bit more power than it would develop as standard. 2) clutch may just break up on attempting it.
  4. its quite interesting though as 'runnaway' diesels have different traits.... some, like the engine in the above clip just run on max rev's ( not limited by ecu) untill the oil has run out. this then causes the engine to seize. bits can snap before this happens though. and other engines will litterally just rev up and keep increasing in rpm untill they spin themselfs to bits. (this can take just a few seconds in some cases)
  5. yes, something liek the first link. toolstation, halfords, screwfix, cromwells all stock this type of thing. basically you put the screw driver tip in the driver and locate it in the screw head. you then get a hammer and give a nice positive 'whack' to the end of it and it twists the screw slightly. but by the inpact (going in) and the turning motion means that the head does not get stripped and it comes out easily. they are a great tool and well worth the few quid the cost.
  6. i know your not supid ER but dont use a hammer drill. you need to use an impact driver (a tool you hit with a hammer and it rotates the screw head slightly). also when you come to put the old or new screws in, dont bother doing them up tight. literally they only need to be done with your fingers, as they only provide support to the disk untill the wheel in in place.
  7. this is becomming a more and more common thing the way that pdf's work / higher performance deisels mean that oil can get in to the cylinders easier and cause this to happen. IIRC, maxda, honda and toyotas are having these problems at the mo
  8. use an impact driver to get the screws out
  9. thats awsome! i wish i still had my cat around to try that on... even though he would still be as lazy without it I guess the cat thinks its being grabbed by the scruff and relaxes
  10. cats are about 50-100 quid depending on how big / the metals they contain. deffo NOT something to 'just' throw away!
  11. dont know what all the fuss was about. i cycle in stuff like that on the way to work!
  12. thats a bargain. i pay nearly that for 2 front discs!
  13. ER. the ECU for the autobox in the civic is an intelligent one too . they learn your driving style, so if your a granny and bearly touch the throttle the gear box will always change up as early as possible. but if you start booting it about asking it to drop a gear or two, it will learn and make the transition / reaction smoother and faster
  14. at the start of the video i thought these guys (with camera) where a bit 'jobs worthy'. but im blooming glad they followed that cow. how discusting was her attitude and i cant belive she didnt stop. well done to the guys with the camera for thinking quickly.
  15. in the UK the driver would have stopped as soon as he saw a weed in the middle of the track that was taller than 3 inches! thats seriously scarey though! i was expecting it to thud on some wildlife or small tree!
  16. have you has the fun situation of using the brake as a clutch ? my parents used to have an auto civic and im glad i didnt have anyone behind me when i pulled up to those traffic lights. I left some skid marks on the road
  17. yep, happens quite a lot really. i would suggest going around all 4 callipers, removing the pads / disks and giving them a good wire brush to get any old material off the caliper. maybe even paint them to stop corrosion. i would think its a brake pad scuffing the disc as your turning.
  18. with sound you would here at 0:14 he lifts off (look at dash), then between 0:15 / 0:16 he starts to accelerate (again look at speedo), as he does this the back end kicks out. this is helped by the fact that the front wheel are already turned to the right which will cause the back end to step out.. just like it did.
  19. look at these: and many other pages of people spinning in the same fassion. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...rgring&aq=f
  20. thats very neat i had to look 4-5 times before i realised what it was! i thought it was just a drawing / PS
  21. commenting on that second video, the guy is obviously trying a little too hard, he almost miss shifted and could not quite make (5th?) gear ? . and a few seconds before he spin's, he does the right thing and has let the engine do some braking, but he seems a little bit too feirce with re- applying the throttle. And to make matters worse for himself, he choses to feed in the power even though he has already started turning in to the corner. Wet track + slightly nervous driver + applying throttle when your turning = spin. Cars like the S dont just spin for 'no reason', it is due to drivers inputs. I can find you hundreds of other RWD cars that lose their tails around those corners on the ring.
