bonza39
Hi All, I've just purchased a 2004 IS200 LE with 48k, and I'm having a nightmare with the ride. I have had it 4 wheel aligned, but the title of the report printout says it is for a Lexus IS 200 GXE10: except Great Britain Sports Pkg, China (Modified Specification). Is this the correct title?? I'm assuming that means sport package, but I thought the LE was based on a Sport? The resulting change is that the steering wheel will not centre on its own, it seems to just stop short of centre, and that any movement of the steering wheel causes the rear end to be very floaty, almost like it is going to slide out, or enter into a tank slapper. Anything above 70mph just feels unsafe as the rear feels very light and floaty. the wheel centre have had another look at the car and say there's nothing wrong with it!! I have seen different geometry values on the LOC forum, but I cant work out whether they are for the Sport model or not, or if they are the same for all IS200's? Any help would be much appreciated, as I really dont want to drive the car anymore.
Tony
Can you display the geometry report so we can validate it?

parthiban
The LE is based on the SE btw, not the Sport so has standard suspension.
Tony
Nothing suspicious with those end results. All i can suggest is you have them set the rear toe to the sport position of -55'.

Do you mean the rear camber to -55? They're having another look at it today after giving them your recommendation, and will report back later. Thanks Tony, if I wasn't down in South Wales Id be up to see you!

bonza39
Well the negative 55 seems to have done the trick, so many thanks with that Tony, although they can't seem to sort out the steering wheel not centreing?
Tony
Half a result then......... What was the final castor positions?
bonza39
Half a result then......... What was the final castor positions? Sorry for the delay, here is my new geometry printout: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3451/001zam.jpg As i say, after turning a corner, if you let the wheel go it will come to rest at either 5 o'clock or 7 o'clock, depending obviously on which way you're turning. Or if going in a straight line, if you touch the wheel down just a little, it will stay in that position, moving you constantly in that direction. Hope that makes sense? I have heard about an indication to ball joints? One was replaced for the MOT. if you refer back to my previous settings before i changed them the first time, I had just picked the car up, and for the short time i drove it to the MOT station all seemed well, from what i can remember!! Its starting to become a pain, because you always seem to be overcompensating when trying to keep it straight, as you dont have that centre dead weight as an aid. Tony
The geometry positions are fine now. I feel this problem is mechanical.
