NA MX-5 settings?

Hi Guys,

I'm changing the suspension on my 94 Mk1 Eunos Roadster to give me a 30-35mm drop from standard. I'm a big lad at 14.5 stone, if it makes a difference.

Afterwards, I want to get the alignment done - I'm not sure it's right at the moment and after lowering the car I'm sure it won't be.

WiM get rave reviews from all the MX5 forums, but as I'm in Manchester it's a bit distant for me to get to.

Could someone either recommend an alignment person who knows MX5s and could apply a decent geometry, or advise me what settings I should be asking for?

I've been given

caster: max available, 4.5deg or more.

front camber: -1.0deg

front toe-in: 0 to 1/16 in

rear camber: -1.5deg

rear toe-in: 0 to 1/16 in

as a starting point, after a bit of a google.

Could anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Ric

Hello Ric

As a starting point the figures you displayed are fine but........ Your weight would be a consideration as would be the adjustment range available on the car. Depending on your intentions for the car sometimes the actual positions are done on the fly, it just takes one cam to max out for things to get messy.

I have several centres north which you can see here on the map http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/tyre-fitting-centres.php If you buy the geometry from us the live link and data can be established on the day.

Great, thanks. Do I just book in with Nigel Lang's or do I need to buy geo from you guys first?

After fast road settings, basically.

Also, not 100% on wheel offset, I think they are correct at 38 but as they came with car and arent standard (15 inch TSW Hockenheim) I'm not totally sure. Presumably this would make a difference, and needs factoring in?

You need to buy from us to get the data and support, then book at one of the centres on the map, Lang's are very good. The off-set can be measured on the day so i'm not worried about that.

Ah, gotcha. So I buy it from you guys and then book in with NL for the actual job - presumably they don't charge for this, it's all included?

Cheers

Yep, they use our settings on the car and open a live link if the car won't comply, we then check the final positions and once approved we pay them.

Sold! Thanks v much. I'll get over there after the coilovers are on. Dumb question - roughly how long does it take on average? Hour or two?

Only takes an hour.

Indeed it does, as I experienced today.

What a great bunch of chaps at WIM - provided just the efficient, knowledgeable & pleasant service that I had anticipated.

My NA wasn't far out, but after putting it to much the same fast road settings as above, with the increased rear camber and increased caster it definitely feels more planted and less vulnerable to tramlining.

Thanks guys!
