Tony
What are your professional thoughts on compound stagger. I recall NSX experimenting in the UK at corner compound stagger aimed at the domestic market (it failed) But i would be interested on your thoughts for front/rear compound stagger for track days... How benefishal do you think a soft/hard or high/low temperature tyre calibration is for the track. Is this a controllable, predictable science or suck it and see type of science..... Various combinations would promote over/under steer properties and various slip properties during the silica heat deterioration once at temperature but i wonder how well this can be forecasted... Sorry for the million questions.......
jon
I think it comes down to a basic process thought. First, you find out what the driver requires then you look at the optimal way of balancing the car around him whether it be with dampers, weight balance, tyre pressures, tyre widths or tyre compound. It would certainly make sense for me to run a harder tyre at the rear as my car struggles with overheating the rears and a lack of mechanical grip at the front in the slower parts of the corners, but then this would go against the tyre staggering which puts more rubber down at the rear! I'd love to know what's actually in it laptime wise too between a soft and hard. Perhaps I should try and butter up one of the manufacturers... Tony
Interesting.... A client recently used Yokohama semi-track tyres with a soft front, hard rear on his Atom and complained of terrible under-steer... Although i feel this was due to a nervous right foot Are you intending to do more research with track day tyre temperature analysis this year? jon
Temperature gun held at the surface of the tyre. Measured on the blocks on the outer, middle and inner.

jon
I've not bothered yet. Whatever the track temperature the tyres overheat so it's largely irrelevant
