bigdry
Hello all, can anyone help me please? I have a 99my c2 porsche 996. As part of a full refresh when the car got to 100000m I have replaced all dampers, springs, lower "coffin" arms, and front diagonals, all drops links and antiroll bars inc mounts front and rear. The car is great, - except after about 1.5-2hrs drive a knocking noise develops from the front end. It actually develops into a quite a loud knock over bumps. If i let the car cool down, it goes away! If i drive it for short time it doesnt do it???.... It seems to be heat soak/heat generated through use specific. (the rads are just in front of the susp....) It goes to say that I cannot find any play in anything on the suspension. (i think by the time i get it jacked up or on a lift it has cooled.) I have been told that worn steering arm can cause this - due to warming up of the grease in the balljoint on the end of the rack thinning and allowing movement in older balljoints. It sounds tenious to me for actual street use anyway... and it doesnt really make the noise when i wiggle the steering more when i got over a bump - but hey im open to ideas before i spend monies on steering arms, track rods ends and 4 wheel alignment again.... Also if i was being totally honest Id say its high speed stabiltiy isnt quite what it used to be but im not sure this isnt psychosomatic as i know theres something not quite right somewhere... Anyone come across this at all? thanks
Tony
Hello This might sound a bit odd but is the noise on bump or off bump or both? Also does it sound metallic or a thud?
