  1. Hello all, can anyone help me please? I have a 99my c2 porsche 996. As part of a full refresh when the car got to 100000m I have replaced all dampers, springs, lower "coffin" arms, and front diagonals, all drops links and antiroll bars inc mounts front and rear. The car is great, - except after about 1.5-2hrs drive a knocking noise develops from the front end. It actually develops into a quite a loud knock over bumps. If i let the car cool down, it goes away! If i drive it for short time it doesnt do it???.... It seems to be heat soak/heat generated through use specific. (the rads are just in front of the susp....) It goes to say that I cannot find any play in anything on the suspension. (i think by the time i get it jacked up or on a lift it has cooled.) I have been told that worn steering arm can cause this - due to warming up of the grease in the balljoint on the end of the rack thinning and allowing movement in older balljoints. It sounds tenious to me for actual street use anyway... and it doesnt really make the noise when i wiggle the steering more when i got over a bump - but hey im open to ideas before i spend monies on steering arms, track rods ends and 4 wheel alignment again.... Also if i was being totally honest Id say its high speed stabiltiy isnt quite what it used to be but im not sure this isnt psychosomatic as i know theres something not quite right somewhere... Anyone come across this at all? thanks
  2. ive asked on the alfa owners forum. Sorry still dont understand that even if i did lower it - how would you reset camber if lowering the car effects the camber so much it wears out the tyres in 2 months, but is not adustable? Confused...
  3. hi tony, thx but it doesnt sit particularly low? (how do i post pics - its ask for a url??? and what what about every other lowered 156 out there? surely they cant be all eating their tyres? or is it more the way the suspension operates with sagged springs? I know the rear has self levelling susp as its the estate version - could this have something to do with it? rear cambers are a bit off too but tyres are fine. thx for your help.
  4. Hi Tony, 96000m, the top and bottom wishbones have been replaced.
  5. Hello, can you help me please? I have an alfaromeo 156 sportwagon 20vjtd, 2005 reg. I had some tyres fitted locally to me before xmas, the suspension then had 4 wheel alignment also. They seemed competant enough. Last week whilst washing the car I noticed that the inner edges of the tyres are wearing out very fast, I returned to said local the garage and they have said the front suspension has too much negative camber… (approx 1.5 negative each side) but its not adjustable so cant do anything about it... Now I agree as don’t think it is adjustable at all on the alfa 156s as the top wishbone just bolts to the damper top mount. So what do I do? Does anyone have experience of adjusting the front camber o these? PS The car seems to drive fine, with no other issues. thx

    mm vs degrees

Hello all, can any one provide a reliable conversion for mm of toe in vs degrees calculator. (I know you need to take into wheel size (mine are 15")) thanks
