  1. i am pretty sure i am running 195/50/15's Ok.... As you may have read i'm snowbound today, hopfully Tonybarber@wim will pick up on this thread and get some prices. Same here mate - the mx5 is parked up since its useless in these conditions and i have lost the 306 to the snow on a hill near the old town. Working from home today - carnage !! Look forward to getting some prices on the rubber. I gather the hancooks are the ones to go for then...

  3. Hi All Its time to lose the gash yoko's and give her some new boots..(once the snow goes) I was looking at either HANKOOK RS2's, or Toyo t1rs... will be doing a couple of track days this year. I tried what i believe to be the Hancook's on the WIM/Gaz demo car and thought they were pretty good as a compromise. Stood up to a fair few hard laps of combe, progressive break away and a bit of tyre squeal so you know you are pushing on Any feedback on the above? Also - Tony : I noted you can provide some WIM springs for the Mk1. How would these compare in terms of ride quality, ride height and guarantee to the eibach pro's that have a 30mm or so drop? (Thinking of doing the lot in one go). Cheers Steve
  4. Would be rude not to get involved on this ! Consider this my entrance !
  5. Hehe a bit tired Tony? The over all weight is the same but the sprung vs unsprung weight ratio changes as the damper and all the heavy oil are attached to the body not the wheel hub assembly which lowers the unsprung weight. This means the wheel can track faster across bumps because there's less weight to move. To everyone else, Tony will obviously be deciding the date but it will likely be an early Saturday morning. Everyone's welcome. Tony, over to you Think i need more sleep ...... Got you booked for 31st@ 9am Got my trackday then so wont make it - thats cool though - another time !
  6. Now theres generous offer ! Let me know when you are in and i see if i can come over!
  7. bloody hell thats an impressive spec I bet it shifts !
  8. I had some Apex coilovers on my old 200sx which i am certain were manufactured by BC. Was very impressed with the build quality on them and the damping adjustment was fairly notciable. The only think i would say is the top mounts were perhaps a bit noisy (particularly when cold in winter)... i don't know if this will be an issue for yours but perhaps it might be a good idea to give them a once over before/after they are on the car and make sure they are not too loose I'd make sure you whack some copper slip on the threads around the locking collars as well Steve
  9. That's a good price for coilovers isn't it? Extremely good for the S2000.... Happy days Some extreme sweet talking been going on with Lou then macca ! excellent ! Fair play though !! I'm biding my time with Su... wait till shes drunk before i tell her i am doing mine ! It's not a mod though, more of an upgrade to make the car safer for when Lou starts driving it. No sweet talking required! I like your thinking !

  11. I agree Tone. Needs some proper investigation really. Just got to check with the other half and see when she can come along and bring me back to Hemel.. if possible i would be aiming to drop it off to you next week early am with a view of you being able to keep hold of it for a few days (if you need the time for diagnosis/repairs) and pickup pm whenever its ready? Will be in touch anyway in a day or so ! Cheers Steve
  12. Hi All, I've got a problem thats recently reared its ugly head and its really starting to irritate. I've got a track day coming up this month as well so i am anxious to diagnose and remedy before then if possible I've got the following symptoms on the MX5 : 1)When parked on flat ground with steering lock off - if i waggle the wheel i can hear knocking from the front wheels 2)When going over SMALL imperfections on the road it tends to provoke the knocks. BIG imperfections dont seem to !!? 3)When turning into a road that happens to have a lip/curb (Just like when coming into WIM's estate) that seems to provoke the knocks. 4)Knocks can also occur when mid corner when the car is loaded up.. i.e. on a roundabout with a rough surface. I had the ARB Droplinks replaced by WIM but its no better unfortunately (one job less however ! )...There has been a suggestion that the track rods/ends might be a good one to look at next ? Failing that it could be : Wheel bearings Steering rack!!? Any ideas ? Cheers Steve
  13. I am liking that! Marmite car i know but thats nice. Are those gramlight rims ?
  14. Good news for you then i suppose !! Did they come far to get the rubber ?
  15. Not my cup of tea either, It doesn't look right on the UK roads. You'd certainly wouldn't want to hit a pot hole on those rims !
  16. Hi Tony, Many thanks for your reply. I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but I've fitted some new wheels, and the front ones catch a little. I thought if I put on a little negative camber, they would sneak inside the arches and not catch. My MX5 was lowered when I got it, so I'm not sure how low it is. I haven't got any way of measuring, I was just going to do the same to both sides. Your advice would be appreciated. Regards, Paul Sounds like offset of the wheels isnt quite right - perhaps you could get them machined just a touch so they sit in a bit more...? OR Raise the ride height? Does it have adjustable coilovers?
  17. When will you know if this is still on mate ? It's definitely on, the date has just changed though. Sorry i was referring to whether the initial date was still on. I got a fair bit on around the back end of August so if the date changes i will have to see if i can make it still
  18. When will you know if this is still on mate ?
  19. Put me down tone I still got a few knocks from mine (post new ARB Droplinks last sat) which i could do with being investigated with a view of being booked in and sorted out if you are up for it ?
  20. I got greens all round on the 5 and the brake dust (particularly on the front) is horrendous - its not like i am standing on them hard either ! Decent enough performance though - i think i'll try either the mazda OEM ones next (highly rated) or perhaps some track spec mintex pads (1155's?)- i've always liked those.
  21. Blimey what can i say - my first thoughts are that its a bit of a lashup, but fair play for daring to be different - are you enjoying the challenge or will you be relieved its been done ? Isn't the rear track out of proportion to the rear of the car and will compromise the handling by default ?
  22. Bizarre i never got an email notification on the thread ? Ok cool - i think OEM droplinks are only a few quid from mx5parts, and i cant imaging ARB rubbers being expensive so i might get a set and bung them on and go from there
  23. I've got to go in for a fine tune anyway in the next week or so but i was just hoping for some ideas
  24. Hi All, I have noticed on occasion over uneven/bumpy roads i get a very faint knock from the front - its not that loud right now but i have sharp ears and i notice it. When parked up a kerb (one side up one down)i move the steering wheel a short distance either way in succession and i can reliably recreate a knock which i am sure its the same thing. I will try it on even ground later to see if its just on the kerb that it happens. I was suspecting worn droplinks initially - no biggie... but would droplinks do that whilst parked up? Would there be play elsewhere that would cause the symptoms above when the wheel was 'waggled' ? Hopefully isnt the bigger bushes on the wishbones... Cheers Steve
  25. Nice video! - i did notice you were checking your mirrors a lot - but thats good thing - the rate at which some of those other motors were going round was impressive. One minute you are ok the next you have a train of cars up your arse. The civic that overtook you sounded like a banshee - quite impressive
