  1. The pilot mentioned flameout so perhaps one or both of the engines lost power on takeoff which is the most critical moment for a plane? Steep climb > low altitude > flameout > nowhere to go....?
  2. I'd wager the pilot was flying by the seat of his pants and spotted water and at the last minute went for it.
  3. Thats harrowing Seeing infants being brought from the wreckage although great that they made it, is upsetting. Poor sods shouldn't have had to go through that
  4. Ha thats brilliant. "Is your car a performance model or modified sir? No?, Sorry we cant help you then"
  5. Its a funny old system as i was able to move my NCB over to the MX5 when i got rid of my Nissan so i didnt start on 0. I've accumilated a seperate set of NCB on the Audis but the missus is the main driver on the estate so she keeps hers alive. I used to deal with Ollie at Sky but it looks like hes left to do other things. Its a shame as i used to enjoy being able to contact them directly via email. They helped me out big time as well when i needed a copy of my insurance emailed over just as i was leaving the country at the eurotunnel a couple of years back for Le Mans. I would have got into bother if i got pulled in france otherwise!
  6. I've gone with Greenlight. Shout out to Neil who sorted me out and also owns a modified Mx5  Will teach me for not shopping around last year its almost half the price of last year and not far off when the car was standard back in 2009 ! All the bells and whistles and track day cover at a very reasonable rate. Disappointed with Sky as i didnt get a renewal through and the chap who i dealt with left the company so it looks like i slipped through the cracks there - their loss!
  7. Note tried anyone yet. I was going to try Flux but i heard in the past odd occasions where they were a bit slippery when paying out... Going to try Greenlight, A-Plan so get the ball rolling...
  8. I have a funny feeling my insurance on the 5 might have expired last year without any kind of reminders The cars been mainly in workshops past this time and trailered about so no harm done, but now brings around the need to sort insurance. Who are you guys using for modified insurance right now ? Previously with Sky (Chaucer). I'd like to try and get the price down a bit on last year as its not doing any serious mileage these days. Cheers Steve
  9. Thats a real shame to see all those cars effectively resigned to a slow death out in the elements, and brings home that people left in a hurry. Huge amount of respect for all those guys who went in there to try and battle the meltdown.
  10. It can be done on the cheap if you are canny and good with the spanners. To get the best out of it it's going to cost more though. But as tony said - get involved you only live once
  11. Thats a good deal if you got it - these days being a bit wiser on detailing i'd not use wonder wheels on the PnJ's powercoated wheels - daily s**tters fine though if you dont care just rinse it off ASAFP.
  12. thats eeery! I suspect photoshop though
  13. This is going to look like steal at that point mate Seems a bit steep but its stealer prices so there you go... i think i would be checking the fluid levels after the next service though... The s3 relieved me of 1200 sheets recently for some fairly trivial work - the price you pay for a specialist. That said though the cars been great since so gonna forget and move on lifes too short!!
  14. My wheels are black so hard to tell on the tar lol but they felt very clean so I would assume it's got most if not all of it. I would definitely say gave a go with this. I think maybe you can use less of this as it's more effective. Just need to get out of the habit of slashing it on like water The mintex pads have a very good feel when up to temp. They are a touch vague when cold though! Got their fast road pads on the front (m1144?) and std Mintex on the back. They performed very well at Bedford.
  15. 500ml per wash sounds a lot mate!? Unless there's a reason not to I will use it every wash. The Mintex pads I have on create a LOT of dust. I should try some of these other ones as well - this was a bit of an impulse buy tbh! Whatevers in it does the job with very little agitation required. I sealed the wheels with auto glym alloy wheel seal spray which helps remove brake dust so next time it will take even less product. I think I used maybe 100ml today. Forgot to say they included quite a nice detailers brush to use on the wheels if required
  16. Sorry it is auto wheel isn't it lol £13 or so for 1 litre which now I have seen how well it works I think it's a fair price. I think the bottle will last a long time!
  17. Hehe I've done longer cleans but I find 3 hours is a good balance
  18. Will do as soon as I can. Today was an emergency clean as winters drawing in and had loads of crap was on the car from its last visit to the workshop and messing with throttle cables and pulleys. Just don't know when the next opportunity will come to give her my usual 3 hour wash lol
  19. Might have just been unlucky who knows? The main thing is a new part was sent with no issue. Fitted it yesterday and the problem has been sorted On a side note - gave the car a clean just now and tried a new wheel cleaner : Auto Clean by Bilt Hamber. Since the wheels have been powder coated I have been cleaning them purely with car shampoo which has worked fairly well but I could tell they were not 100% clean. This stuff is very good. PH neutral and spray on and it turns purple as it lifts the metal particles. Didn't think the PH neutral stuff would work very well to be honest but this has converted me. Recommended
  20. Noise but could be play haven't checked. I've read of other supercharged guys having noisy pulleys and then having them seize solid and throw the belt off causing damage to anything in the area. Just not taking any chances.
  21. Seemingly not - i guess they dont have that kind of communication with the manufacturer who is based in the US. Anyway new pulley has arrived. As you can see it is flanged which is vital to make sure the belt doesnt wander too far if things aren't aligned 100%. The bearing is sealed in the pulley so when its gone, its gone! I will post up the track dog version soon for comparison as it is made from steel rather than reinforced plastic and also is serviceable (bearings can be replaced):
  22. They haven't asked for it so far. It's not serviceable so seems a bit pointless.
